    reformed in 1974(provided federal funds to school
    districts for the instructions in languages
    other than English).

Types of Bilingual Education
  • English Immersion The instruction is entirely
    in English. Teacher provide lesson in basic
    English so students learn English and academic
    subjects.
  • English as a Second Language is almost the same
    as immersion, but also include support to
    students in their native tongue. Classes include
    students who speak many different languages but
    are not fluent in English.

  • Transitional Bilingual Education instruction for
    some subjects is in the students native language
    but in certain amount of day is spent on
    developing English skill.
  • Two-way Bilingual Education instruction is given
    in two languages to students, usually in the same
    classroom, who may be dominant in one language or
    the other, with the goal of students becoming
    proficient in both languages.

  • Assessment process results in a bilingual
    student Students may be misdiagnosed as
    requiring special education when they are
    students with normal learning ability who are
    simply limited in English proficiency. This is
    due to their inability to meet the expectation
    established by the educational system.
