Title: Vacuole

Vacuole

  • The vacuole is present in both plant and animal
cells. Its responsibility in the plant cell is to
maintain the structure and shape of the cell.
Since plant cells dont increase their size by
increasing their cytoplasm, they increase the
size of their vacuoles. The vacuole is a large
vesicle that is also used to store nutrients,
    proteins, pigments, metabolites, and waste
products. The vacuole usually takes up to 80
percent of the cells space. Vacuoles in animal
cells tend to be much smaller. In animal cells
they are used to temporarily store materials and
transport substances. Vacuoles are filled up with
a liquid called cell sap and enclosed by a
    membrane called tonoplast.
  • Here, the central vacuole is located in a plant
cell. As you can see it takes up most of the
    cells space.
