How it Occurs

• Prader Willi Syndrome is a birth defect that is
  due to a loss of function of imprinted genes in
  the chromosome region 15q11-q13

Living with Prader Willi

• Living with my sister, Sarah, is a challenge
• Due to her obsessive compulsiveness about food we
  must keep locks and an alarm system in the
  kitchen at all times
• People with this disorder can literally eat
  themselves to death because they never feel full
• Her obsessions lead to more intense problems,
  however with patience they can be managed.

The Dire Truth

• A fact most families have come to live with is
  that most children with Prader Willi never make
  it past 25 years of age. They die of
  complications with the disorder and sadly many
  die to the sheer fact that they literally eat
  themselves to death. Many do not understand how
  one could eat themselves to death, but children
  with Prader Willi lack the chemical that tells us
  when to quit eating or when were full. So Prader
  Willi children always feel hungry.
