CheckTrack Automated Returned Deposited
Item Collection For Businesses
14
  • About CheckTrack
  • CheckTrack is an NSF check collection service
that enables customers to focus on their business
with less concern about checks returned for
    insufficient or uncollected funds.
  • Businesses can accept personal checks with the
comfort of knowing that eligible returns will be
    electronically re-presented through the ACH
network, thus avoiding any uncomfortable face to
    face contact .
  • Most banks process electronic items before paper,
thereby increasing the likelihood that the
returned check will be paid, saving them time
    and money.
  • In 2008, CPS processed over 93,500 items totaling
    almost 26 million dollars.

15
  • How CheckTrack works
  • CheckTrack is designed for business customers
    that accept consumer checks.
  • All returned deposited items from your business
    customers are sent to CPS.
  • CPS uses the ACH network to collect eligible
    returned deposited items.
  • Once the face value is collected Your customer is
credited for the full face amount of all
    collected items.
  • After the face value is collected, CPS will make
a second attempt through the ACH network to
collect the standard returned check fee from the
issuer of the check (check fees vary by state and
    range from 15 to 50).
  • Once the fee is collected, CPS pays your bank 40
    of the collected fee.

16
  • The benefits of CheckTrack
  • All eligible returned checks will be processed
with no out-of-pocket cost to you.
  • Allows two attempts to electronically re-present
    each eligible returned check.
  • You provide a check collection service for your
    business customers that
  • requires no additional equipment or software to
    buy.
  • is free to your Customers.
  • non-intrusive to your customers as the ACH
    transactions areautomatically debited.
  • allows the business to collect more checks than
    traditional methods.
  • Reporting of all pending and collected returned
checks and their images are available via a
    secure website.
  • No minimum number of returned items are required
    to qualify for the service.

17
  • CheckTrack Features
  • Returned checks are presented for collection a
second time through CheckTrack, if necessary.
  • Collection attempts can be timed on the 15th and
30th of the each month or on Fridays.
  • Checks are credited each day as they are
    collected.
  • CheckTrack online reports permit your customers
to track the status of all submitted items.
  • CPS collects, on average, over 75 of returned
    checks.
  • Checks not eligible for ACH RCK processing are
    returned to your customer.
  • Checks that are unable to be collected are also
    returned to your customer.

18
Online web reports sample
19
  • The negative response approach
  • Identify all customers that have had returned
items within the last 6 months.
  • Automatically enroll your business Customers in
CheckTrack with the option to opt-out if the
service is undesirable at that time.
  • Customers are set up with special instructions to
have all returned checks sent to CPS for
    processing.
  • What CPS will do
  • Notify your business Customers of this enrollment
through a negative response letter (under your
cover) that includes a sell sheet and a return
check policy sign that they must display at the
    point of sale.
  • Customers are called when the first returned
check is received to instruct them on how to use
the system and to give them a second chance to
    opt-out.

20
  • Market Trends
  • Major banks throughout the country such as
JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wachovia and
BBT have successfully implemented this type of
service using a negative response letter
    approach.
  • Over the last several years, non-bank payments
providers have penetrated this customer service
and fee income opportunity by going direct to
    businesses.
  • Check guarantee providers who collect these
returned items, usually take a percentage of the
face amount of all the checks collected.
  • Our research has indicated that
  • Business customers would prefer that their own
bank provide the service, especially if it is of
    no cost to them.
  • About 60 of your business Customers will opt for
the CheckTrack service because it keeps them from
having to go directly to the customer and
provides a much better chance of collecting the
    funds (CPS has a 75 - 80 collection rate and a
65 returned check fee collection rate).
  • Collecting returned checks takes away valuable
    time from running their business.

21

    armored courier.

  • The armored courier will scan the customers
deposits, including cash tickets, and transmit a
balanced X9.37i file securely to CPS for

    costs alone.

40
ACH Origination
41
  • How will ACH Origination work
  • For FIs that originate ACH transactions through a
third party to clear to the FED, CPS can
    originate on the FIs behalf.
  • This product is for the FIs customers who can
create an ACH file through their own software and
either want to credit or debit accounts (for
    example payroll).
  • Customers can securely transfer the ACH file to
CPS, who will use BBT to clear the items.
  • The FI would open an account at BBT. CPS would
use this account to settle to the FI, who would
in turn, settle back to their customer.
  • CPS is looking for Financial Institutions to
    pilot this solution.
