returning from Jerusalem, about the people and
    city.
  • They said to me, Those who survived the exile
and are back in the province are in great trouble
and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken
down, and its gates have been burned with fire.
When I heard these things, I sat down and wept.
For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed
before the God of heaven. Nehemiah 13,4
  • Nehemiah asked the King and received permission
and provision from the King to return to
    Jerusalem and rebuild the wall.

Nehemiah Allegory of Restoration
  • 2 Cor. 318 And we, who with unveiled faces all
reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed
into his likeness with ever-increasing glory,
which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
  • Phil. 16 being confident of this, that he who
began a good work in you will carry it on to
completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
  • 2 Cor. 110 He has delivered us from such a
deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we
have set our hope that he will continue to
    deliver us

Surveying the Damage
  • So I came to Jerusalem and was there three days.
Then I arose in the night, I and a few men with
me I told no one what my God had put in my heart
to do at Jerusalem nor was there any animal with
me, except the one on which I rode. And I went
out by night through the Valley Gate to the
Serpent Well and the Refuse Gate, and viewed the
walls of Jerusalem which were broken down and its
gates which were burned with fire. Then I went on
to the Fountain Gate and to the King's Pool, but
there was no room for the animal under me to
pass. So I went up in the night by the valley,
and viewed the wall then I turned back and
entered by the Valley Gate, and so returned..
    Nehemiah 211-15
