Why Born Again Christians Believe Jesus Rose from
the Dead
  • If Jesus did not rise from the dead, the
Christian faith is a foolish fantasy. However, if
the resurrection of Christ did occur, it confirms
His life, message, and atoning work. It is the
basis of our hope of life beyond the grave.
  • Christ is alive, and the evidence is
    overwhelming.
  • Here are some of the reasons we can be so sure.

4
Jesus predicted His resurrection
  • 1.Matt.1621 From that time Jesus began to show
to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem,
and suffer many things from the elders and chief
priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised
the third day. (Matt. 1621 Mark 99-10 John
    218-22).

5
The Old Testament prophesied The Resurrection
  • 2. Psalm 1610 For You will not leave my soul
in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see
    corruption.
  • compare Acts 225-31
  • Acts1333-37. "God has fulfilled this for us
their children, in that He has raised up Jesus.
As it is also written in the second Psalm 'You
are My Son, Today I have begotten You.

6
The tomb was empty and the grave clothes vacant.
  • If those who opposed Christ wished to silence His
disciples, all they had to do was produce a body,
    but they could not.
  • 3. John 203-9 Peter therefore went out, and the
other disciple, and were going to the tomb. So
they both ran together, and the other disciple
outran Peter and came to the tomb first. And he,
stooping down and looking in, saw the linen
cloths lying there yet he did not go in. Then
Simon Peter came, following him, and went into
the tomb and he saw the linen cloths lying
there, and the handkerchief that had been around
His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but
folded together in a place by itself. Then the
other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went
in also and he saw and believed. For as yet they
did not know the Scripture, that He must rise
    again from the dead.

7
Many people saw the resurrected Jesus Christ.
  • They looked on His face, touched Him, heard His
    voice, and saw Him eat
  • (Matt. 2816-20 Luke 2413-39 John 2011-29
  • John 211-9 Acts 16-11)
  • 4. 1 Cor. 153-8 153 For I delivered to you
first of all that which I also received that
Christ died for our sins according to the
Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He
rose again the third day according to the
Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then
by the twelve. After that He was seen by over
five hundred brethren at once, of whom the
greater part remain to the present, but some have
fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James,
then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was
seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

8
The lives of the disciples were revolutionized.
  • Though they fled and even denied Christ at the
time of His arrest, they later feared no one in
    their proclamation of the
  • Risen Christ
  • 5.Matt. 2656, Then all the disciples forsook Him
    and fled.
  • Matt. 69-75, Peter denying Christ 3 times in a
    role.

9
The Resurrection was the central message of the
early church.
  • The church grew with an unwavering conviction
that Jesus Christ had risen and was the Lord of
    the church.
  • 6. Acts 433 And with great power the apostles
gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord
Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.
  • Acts 530-32 And we are His witnesses to
these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom
God has given to those who obey Him."
  • Rom. 521 so that as sin reigned in death, even
so grace might reign through righteousness to
eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

10
The Resurrection Gives Proof
  • 1. He is the Son of God (Rom. 14) and declared
to be the Son of God with power according to the
Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the
    dead.
  • 2. Salvation is completed and His sacrifice
accepted (Rom. 424-25) but also for us. It
shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who
raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was
delivered up because of our offences, and was
    raised because of our justification
  • 3. Believers can live holy lives (Rom.
64).even so we also should walk in newness
    of life
  • 4. We have an intercessor in glory (Rom. 834)
who is even at the right hand of God, who also
    makes intercession for us.

11
The Resurrection Gives Proof
  • 5. He is Lord (Rom. 149) For to this end Christ
died and rose and lived again, that He might be
Lord of both the dead and the living
  • 6. He will one day come to judge (Acts 1731) He
has appointed a day on which He will judge the
world in righteousness by the Man whom He has
ordained. He has given assurance of this to all
by raising Him from the dead."
  • 7. The dead will one day be raised (John 524-29)
and come forth-those who have done good, to the
resurrection of life, and those who have done
evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
