DSJ OBSERVATIONS BY BABAR CLEO BELLE
  • BABAR finds prominent narrow resonance
    Dsj(2317)?Ds p0
  • CLEO finds prominent narrow resonance
    Dsj(2463)?Ds p0
  • BELLE finds evidence for Dsj(2463)?Dsg and
    determines JP1 for Dsj(2463)
  • Historical account in SB, Fabbri, Benson, Bigi

24
DSJ OBSERVATIONS BY BABAR CLEO BELLE
  • It seems natural to interpret Dsj(2317) and
    Dsj(2463) as 0 and 1 states, respectively
  • They are narrow because below the DK threshold,
    and therefore isospin-violating
  • Much lower mass than the 1 (2535) and 2 (2572)
    narrow partners
  • Where are the
  • corresponding cu states (if
  • flavour symmetry
  • applies) ???
  • They should be lighter
  • than Dsj(2317) and
  • Dsj(2463).

25
NEW BELLE RESULTS (I)A.Drutskoy HEP05 (EPS)
Lisboa, BELLE-Conf-0516,0519. BELLE Coll.,
hep-ex/0507030
  • Improved measurement of B0?DsJ K- decays
  • Quark content of final state completely different
    from B meson,
  • calling for non-trivial decay mechanisms. Decay
    is also sensitive to 4-q
  • content. New measurement improves previous with
    higher statistics
  • (PRL 94 061802).

Rate for B0 decay to DsJ(2317) is 3x larger
than rate to DsJ(2460)
26
NEW BELLE RESULTS (II)A.Drutskoy HEP05 (EPS)
Lisboa, BELLE-Conf-0516,0519. BELLE Coll.,
hep-ex/0507030
  • Observation of
  • Ds1(2536)?Dp-K

BELLE also studied S-wave component, which may
give info on mixing between the two 1 states
newly discovered.

Complex meson spectroscopy
Couple M1M2 and qq basis states (sum loop
diagrams). Result is an MM scattering T-matrix
Valence-continuum coupling. (Here the 3P0 model.)
E denom.
You can track naïve qq states (mass and width) as
a function of this valence-continuum coupling.
Rather large shifts, but results look like
reality.
This general technique is probably the new
paradigm we need to describe the Ds0(2317).
(and ) Unquenching the quark model.

What went wrong? We have been here before!
Suggested reading The Multiquark Fiasco,
N.Isgur, in Acta Physica Austriaca Suppl.
XXVII, 177 (1985).
41
More warnings
If M gt M1 M2, it falls apart into had1 had2
R.L.Jaffe, Perhaps a Stable Dihyperon PRL38,
179 (1977).
42
The problem fall-apart eliminates multiquark
resonances.
Decay of a qq meson. Requires an HI (qq pair
production).
Fall apart of a multiquark system into 2
minimal color singlets. No HI required. It does
not exist as a resonance (w/o a fission barrier).

of Philosophy, Harvard (to 1912).

to repeat it." Life of Reason, Reason in Common

3. Our moment of Zen
The story of the pentaquark shows how poorly we
understand QCD.
