  • Grew up on a peanut farm
  • The eldest of four children
  • As a child he showed a deep commitment to
    Christianity
  • In 1970 he was elected Senator of Georgia.

Presidential Term
  • Served as President from 1977-1981
  • Aspired to make government competent and
    compassionate
  • One of Carters Most important accomplishments as
    President were the Camp David Accords.
  • Carter worked tirelessly on SALT II Treaty
    (SALTStrategic Arms Limitations Talks)

  • Made major reforms to the Department of Health,
    Education and Welfare.
  • Pardoned Vietnam-era Draft Dodgers
  • Raised Social Security
  • Appointed record numbers of women and minorities
    to government and judiciary positions.

Camp David Accords
  • In 1978, Carter negotiated peace talks between
    Israel and Egypt.
  • These ground breaking talks promised peace
    between Israel and Egypt peace which had not
    existed since 1948.

  • A non-profit organization founded by Carter in
    1982.
  • Guided by five basic principles
  • 1. The Center emphasizes action and results.
