Genesis 127
3
Image as Reflection
  • Humans are the culmination of Gods creation
  • Humans are reflections of God, not God
  • A reflection is not the reality but the
reflection of the reality (not 1st but 2nd
    reality)
  • Humans are number 2 God is number 1
  • Humans are creatures (have been created)
  • Humans as creatures is a humble recognition that
we are not the center of our own lives, God is
(human Latin word humus of the earth, and
    to be cultivated)

4
Image as idol false image
  • How do we live out our call to imagehood?
  • Ex. 204 humans are forbidden to make images of
    God (human images are idols)
  • Idols have eyes but see not, ears but hear not
(Ps. 13515-18) these images are dead, not
alive (they have no real power)
  • What idols do we have in pop culture?
  • What sort of power do they possess?

5
Image as Call human vocation
  • Reflecting the image means to do what the image
does (i.e. Do what God does)
  • What does God do?
  • Give life (i.e. be creative, nurture, foster and
improve the quality of life for all persons and
    all things)
  • Have dominion (dont dominate, exploit or
    destroy)
  • Overcome the forces of chaos and destruction
(bring light to the darkness, warmth to the cold,
healing to the sick, life to those who are dead)

6
Freedom
  • Humans are given the freedom to either accept
(say yes) or reject (say no) to the image
    within
