Bud , Not Buddy
  • By Christopher Paul Curtis.

Main Idea.
  • Bud gets sent to the Amoses house for the
    summer.
  • Bud and Bugs try and get on a train to go west.
  • Bud walks to Grand Rapids and gets caught, so he
    gets a ride.
  • Bud goes to the Sweat Pee and laughs so hard he
    cries.
  • Bud find out that Herman E. Calloway is not his
    dad but his grandpa.
  • Bud joins The Dusty Berbers of the Depression.
  • Bud had lots of adventures while he is trying to
    get to Herman E. Calloway.

Theme.
  • The lesson of the story was, it was hard to live
    in the Great Depression.

5 Events.
  • Bud is in the home and the lady comes and tells
    him he is going to a house for the summer.
  • Bud gets locked in a shied, there he gets cut by
    fish and stun by hornets.
  • Bud pours water on to Todds pajamas so it looks
    like he wet the bed.
  • Bud almost killed Bugs because he jumped on him
    when he was rapped up in his blanket.
  • Bud thought that Lefty Lewis was a vampire
    because he had blood in his back seat.

Description of Setting.
  • The setting is the Sweet Pee.
  • When you first walk into the Sweat Pee you will
    see a line of people waiting for a table. There
    are 5 tables. There is a stage for the band to
    play on. Theres a door that leads to the
    kitchen. The chairs are folding chairs. It smells
    extraordinary.

Character Descriptions.
  • Bud Bud is very brave and cleaver. Bud has
    dark colored skin. He has worn out clothes and
    short hair. He has a swelling cut on his finger.
    His body is kind of swollen. Bud found his way to
    Grand Rapids after walking and driving all night.
  • Herman E. Calloway He is very mean and
    rich. Herman has awesome looking clothes. He is
    very wrinkly. He wears a top hat. His hair is
    thinning. Herman E. Calloway doesnt like Bud at
    first so he yells at he and calls him a thief.
  • Lefty Lewis He is a very kind and man.
    Lefty has light colored skin and good clothes.
    Bud scares Lefty by stealing his car. He has a
    fliers that host a rebellion. He takes Bud to
    Grand Rapids.

5 Words I Did Not Know.
  • Redcap Lefty Lewis was talking about radio
    shows and Scott was talking about going to a
    baseball game to watch Lefty Lewis pitch and Kim
    was talking about a little girl she didnt like
    and Mrs. Sleet was talking about some people
    called redcaps. In the sentence it means a person
    with a redcap. The definition is redcaps are men
    who work at the railroad station loading the
    trains and taking peoples bags to their cars.
  • Scooching I started scooching toward the bed
    hoping I could get under it. The definition is
    moving slowly toward something.
  • Provoked Not only have you struck him but you
    provoked his asthma. The definition is to arouse
    to a feeling or action.
  • Rememorized Shucks, Ive got so many of them
    rememorized that I had to give them numbers, and
    it seemed like Todd knew Number 3 of Bud
    Caldwells rules and things for having a funner
    life and making a better liar out of yourself.
    The definition is to memorize over and over
    again.
  • Cur You little cur, what have you done to my
    Toddy? The definition is a surly or a cowardly
    fellow.

The Great Depression.
  • The Great Depression started in 1892 and ended
    in 1933.
  • 37.6 of people in the U.S.A were unemployed
    during the Great Depression.
  • The stock market crash of 1929 was one cause of
    The Great Depression.
  • In The Great Depression people became depressed
    and many committed suicide.
  • During The Great Depression people feared of
    losing their jobs which caused anxiety.

  • Bud Similes Bud is like a rock. Bud is like a
    car.
  • Bud metaphors Bud is the wind. Bud is a storm.
