Title: MBNG Jan 2002

1
Some Edge (Bbone) Router requirements
  • Connect to the test systems in the IP domain.
  • Accept marked packets and be able to re-mark them
  • Mark the packets on input according to at least
  • Source dest IP address IP port
  • Layer3 and Layer4 headers TCP/UDP
  • Support Diffserve code points
  • Perform policing and admission control
  • Provide a range of Queue type options
  • Several queues with different priorities
  • Real-time queue
  • Provide flexible Queue Scheduling
  • Weighted round robin
  • Weighted fair queuing
  • Provide Congestion control such as
  • RED
  • ECN
  • Be able to assign MPLS labels to the packets in a
    flexible manner.

Some Notes
  • RAL/UKERNA provide access to real Grid data e.g.
    BaBar HEP data
  • Advantages of the Proposed configuration
  • Three MPLS Administrative domains available for
    tests
  • Uniformity of blades, interfaces and software
  • PXF on the blades provides for more options
    future developments
  • MPLS based MANs would use these blades
  • Provision for foreseen upgrade of the OSM blades
    should be included
  • Background traffic (non-MPLS) can be injected
    via
  • 2 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces on the Supervisor
    card
  • 4 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces on the OSM POS
    cards
  • ECN not yet available on any blades could be
    experimental later
  • Traffic on the OSM WAN ports cannot be monitored
    (span) in the router
  • Use of external CISCO 3508s
  • Traffic on Supervisor ports may be monitored
  • Use of header monitor on backplane
