St Clements College
  • A Local Selective Educational System
  • Grammar School serves top 25 of students
following 11plus exams, St Clements College (a
secondary modern) serves the remaining 75
    (Stigma Attached)
  • Provides a more vocationally based education.
  • Direct links to student aspirations and
progression routes due to their educational
    experiences.
  • Lower numbers accessing HE
  • Post 16 aspirations of Employment/Training.
  • Student aspirations rarely match actual
opportunities in the area (e.g. WBL provision,
Full Time Employment, lack of necessary/basic
skills, self awareness vs opportunity awareness,
    etc)

8
The National Challenge
  • St Clements currently faces the National
Challenge whereby 30 of all students are to
achieve at least 5 grade A to C by 2011.
  • St Clements in Context of the National Challenge
  • (info provided from CfBT report)
  • Attainment on entry to the College is well below
national average. Baseline testing of Year 7s
upon entry confirms 25 with reading ages more
than 2 years below chronological age.
  • 40 (over 400) of students on the SEN register
(academic, behavioural and emotional needs). 3
levels of SEN School Action, School Action Plus
    and Statemented.
  • Growing numbers of Polish and other Eastern
European origins joining the college with no or
low functional levels of English (High Levels of
    Absence).

9
The National Challenge
  • 2007/8 - 23 of students accessing Free School
Meals. The Index of Multiple Deprivation places
St Clements as the second most deprived Secondary
    School in the County.
  • Very high student mobility. An average of 200
students joining/leaving the college every year
    as non routine admissions.
  • However
  • Standards and achievement in the College have
    been showing a
  • considerable upward trend year upon year
    (Academic vs Vocational)
  • There are some very obvious links between issues
    within St
  • Clements College and those that surround the
    Skegness area

10
