  • 1919 National Officers elected from alumni
  • 1937 Invited to join Association of College
    Honor Societies
  • 1970 National Office established
  • October 1975 Special Conference to consider
    regulations of Title IX leading to the inclusion
    of male students.
  • 1976 National Conference at the Colorado State
    University included men as voting delegates.
  • June 1987 Men were elected to the National
    Council for the first time.
  • 1993 75th Anniversary of Mortar Board founding.
    Eight former National Presidents attended.
  • July 1995 Delegates voted to hold National
    Conferences annually.
  • 1999 A massive alumni outreach movement was
    implemented by Mortar Board.
  • 2000 The National Foundation made almost 1
    million in funds to support the aims of Mortar
    Board, Inc.

Hui Pookela
  • 1928 Senior Womens Honor Society founded at
    the University of Hawaii.
  • Members selected on the basis of scholastic
    achievement and commitment to service.
  • In 1962 President Hamilton requested Hui Pookela
    petition for membership in the National Mortar
    Board.
  • April 21, 1965 Hui Pookela was installed as
    the 113th Chapter of National Mortar Board.
  • The 1976-77 chapter initiated the first male
    members of Hui Pookela.

Committed to Excellence
  • 1963-1965 Chapter Members served the community by
    reading and tape recording books for the visually
    impaired.
  • Worked with honor societies to establish the
    KOKUA Program on campus.
  • In 1985, Hui Pookela worked at the Hawaii State
    Farm Fair as their first money making project.
