Take the Bus!
  • We have just received word from The Scout
Association that for those of you who will arrive
on July 21 thru 23, they will pick up at Stansted
Airport only. Pre-event IST members who arrive
on July 21 will be required to check in at Gate 5
    entrance to Hylands Park .
  • This is a change from their original plan
    announced last winter.
  • It is recommended that IST members take the
National Express Bus from Gatwick or Heathrow to
this airport. It is the most economical and
easiest option. You may pre-book tickets on
    www.nationalexpress.co.uk.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE TEAM
Anyone wondering what the IST logo represents
might be interested in the following The diamond
comes from the diamond of the Jamboree Logo. The
rainbow picks up from the background designs for
the Jamboree - representing the full range of
people in the world. The dove represents peace
and is used on all the World Centenary logos.
The "EIST" is a mixture of the French and
English translations International Service Team
(IST) in English, and L'Equipe Internationale de
Service (EIS) in French.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE TEAM
  • Scouters who have submitted applications and have
gone through the interview process will receive a
copy of the International Service Teams
Opportunity Catalog via e-mail. We encourage you
to select the areas of expertise in which you
feel you may best serve the youth of the 21st
World Scout Jamboree. Select five positions that
you are interested in, but please make sure that
you meet the position expectations and time
    requirements.
  • Applications will be forwarded to The Scout
Association of the United Kingdom for final
review and selection. The host country makes the
final selection. If you are selected to serve,
you will be joining 8,000 other International
Service Team members. We have been recently
advised that they will not begin to make their
selections until later in the fall. If you have
    applied, please be patient.

  • Subject IST Position Preferences
  • My choices in order of preference are
  • 1. 06-00 Information Communication
Technology (I am a Librarian with solid
    Internet/computer skills)
  • 2. 03-00 Human Resources
  • 3. 15-00 Food Trading
  • 4. 07-00 Guest Services
  • 5. 10-06 Off Site Programme Raft Building
    Specialist (especially corracle building)

You have been selected
  • We would like to thank our IST members for their
patience with the job allocation. With an event
the size and scale of the 21st World Scout
Jamboree, and with over 8,000 individuals in the
International Service Team, plans change and we
hope that all members of the IST will have a
flexible approach toward the role they are
    allocated.
  •
  • You were selected to serve as Information
    Communications Technology staff.
  •
  • Every IST member will be told their team when
they check in. Every effort has been made to give
IST members one of their five role choices.
However, due to the high popularity of certain
areas there are a small number of people for whom
    this has not been possible.
  •
  • Individual members of the IST should NOT contact
The Scout Association regarding the job they have
been allocated.  The priority as service team
staff member will be to ensure a truly amazing
experience for every young person attending the
jamboree. While all members of the IST will be
looked after and managed, the young people are
our priority. We will be encouraging every IST
member to do their best and approach their role
with a positive attitude even if it was not their
first choice. It is not the role we do but the
international team we do it with that counts!
There is more information about each of the teams
that the IST members will be part of on the
    jamboree Web-site at www.thejamboree.org/ist.

  • Greetings! Have arrived safely in England.
Jamboree is still in build stage. 30,000 are
expected tomorrow! We will be checking them in on
    these machines -
  • weather has been cloudy and showery. England is
very green and very wet. Cot was a good idea.
  •
  • Food is good. Learning about british brews.
meeting many new people. everyone seems very
engaged, with the possible exception of a group
od US scoutmasters who are keeping to
themselves....too many people to find out about.
  •
  • We occupy 500 acres - with mud, it's a little
Woodstock-like, but this mud is NOTHING like
1969. Doesn't close to us quality. Even id it
deepens, I don't think it will have the same
shoe-sucking quality as good old Sullivan Cty
    mud.
  •
  • There's a wait for the machine so I should
    probably relinquish my place.

Re Fwd Re 2007 Jaboree - Onsite Notes from
Bill Langham

  •
  • Today was hot and breezy - perfect laundry
weather. I did two batches. I used my day-off
with laundry, figuring out how to get some photos
to you guys and touring the site. it realy s
quite wonderful. The global Development Village
has booths on refugees, AIDS, environment, peace,
land mines, all kinds of stuff. There are
activities and games - I saw participants tossing
fake turds into toilets to raise water and
sanitation awareness. I myslef threw books at
handgrenade targets and bottles of toxic
substances. i failed to win a t-shirt, but I got
    the message.
  •
  • This AM, i visited thefaiths and beliefs site. i
especuially wanted to see what the Church of
Christ/Latter Day Saints had on display,
especially with M.Romney running for President
and the LDS's significant membership in and as
sponsoring organizations of scouting. I was given
    a booklet on how-to be well-groomed and a
goody-two shoes, but i also got a neat patch and
    shiny gold coin.
  •
  • I then meditated in a Buddah tent with several
Italians and made a momnani, a buddist knotted
totem that represents good luck. It's pretty
    cool!
  •
  • Tonight is the USA Contingent Reception. They are
giving out a really smart coin. i saw one this
    afternoon.
  •
  • have a good flight to Tampa. I'm sure I'll have
    more to report before sunday.
