TRADITIONAL GREEK FOODS AND DRINKS !!
As all of you know, in Greece we eat until we
blow up, the popular Greek souvlaki and of
course we need a Greek traditional salad and a
special , home-made ,drink which called
ouzo!!!! We also have a food which called
mousakas , a famous food to tourists .
3
Souvlaki is a popular Greek fast food consisting
of small pieces of meat and sometimes vegetables
grilled on a skewer. It may be served on the
skewer for eating out of hand, in a pita sandwich
with garnishes and sauces, or on a dinner plate,
often with fried potatoes or pilaf. The meat is
traditionally pork in Greece and Cyprus, or in
modern times increasingly chicken. In other
countries and for tourists, souvlaki may be made
with other meats such as veal, lamb and sometimes
fish (especially swordfish).

Greek salad is a salad made in the Greek fashion
and is a common component of a traditional Greek
meal. It is one of the most popular salads in
Greece and Cyprus as it is light, refreshing and
easy to make and especially popular during the
summer months. True Greek salad is made of sliced
or chopped tomatoes with cucumber, and red onion,
seasoned with salt, black pepper, and oregano and
dressed with olive oil. Common additions include
feta cheese, bell peppers, capers, anchovies,
sardines and kalamata olives. Lettuce and vinegar
are not used in a Greek salad.

Ouzo (????) is an anise-flavored liqueur that is
widely consumed in Greece. It is similar to
French pastis, or Italian Anise and Turkish raki,
but a little sweeter and smoother. It can be
drunk either straight or mixed with water.

Halvas made with semolina, nuts, raisins, and
cinnamon is a delightful, grainy textured
dessert, and one of the more famous Greek sweets.

Tzatziki
Tzatziki is a Greek meze or appetizer also used
as a sauce for souvlaki and gyros. Tzatziki is
made of strained yoghurt in Greece usually
sheep's-milk or goat's-milk yoghurt to which
are added cucumbers (either pureed and strained
or seeded and finely diced), garlic, salt and
usually olive oil, sometimes vinegar, and dill,
parsley or mint. Olive oil, olives, and herbs are
often used as garnishes as well.
