do about some of the common problems we all
face in social work education as service user
    educators.

5
The early days of involvement and then the SUPA
Group.
  • Involvement was down to individual teaching
staff, and some were more keen than others.

  • Service Users Carers had to be involved with
    all aspects of the degree.

We are currently working on
  • Post qualifying awards and ways in which all our
existing systems can be used to support students
    studying on these programmes.

22
Ways to involve more people
23
Nothing is perfect still a long way to go!
  • Problems with payment and benefits!

24
Still need more investment!
  • Service User Involvement is
  • everyone's responsibility! Each
  • organisation should have A
  • central point of contact
  • and should have a
  • co-ordination role/worker
  • It took us years and a
  • hard Fight!

25
Today is an important day!
  • We have shown you what we do and offered you some
ideas, but the SUPA Groups main objective today
was to make some new allies, friends and
    colleagues.

26
We want to continue to share ideas with you in
exchange for
  • Commitment to good practice.
  • More involvement of service users and carers in
all aspects of degree programmes nationally.
  • To start to shape some national consistency in
    terms of involvement.

27
What can we do in return?
  • Work together to improve current models and
transport ideas into each others organisations.
  • Work in true partnership to ensure that first
class service user led education is delivered to
students at all levels regardless of where they
    study.
  • Ensure that as many service eligible citizens as
possible are informed of their rights to be
involved in social work education, and that their
    right is facilitated.

28
And finally
  • This presentation is only the tip of the iceberg
of what the SUPA Group has achieved since 2003.
  • Imagine if we all worked together to build this
work into standard practice within our
organisations, but supported each other to do so.
  • Sharing new ideas and pooling resources along the
    way?

29
The only thing to remember is
  • Service users and carers have to set the agenda.
  • Get involved on their own terms.
  • Have the right to own their experiences and
    knowledge and be paid appropriately.
  • Access opportunities to publish or further their
work based on their involvement and feedback from
    people they work with.
