Early Days
  • An author was born on March 20,1937 in Honolulu,
    Hawaii
  • Her career is writing children's books
  • Louiss father was an army officer and was
    stationed near Pearl Harbor
  • When World War II started in 1939, she moved to
    Pennsylvania
  • Also, because she had an military father, she
    lived all around the world
  • When she was 11 she moved to Tokyo
  • She went to school in New York City
  • She went to college at Brown University in Rhode
    Island while her family lived in Washington D.C.

Life as a mother and wife
  • The first couple years of her life as a wife she
    called them nice, pleasant, and interlude
  • When she was married to him she moved an awful
    lot with her children Alix, Kristin, Grey, and
    Benjamin
  • But, after she said that her sister, Helen, died
    from cancer it was a very bad experience in her
    life
  • At college she met Donald Grey Lowry, a naval
    officer
  • She quit school to marry Donald and move to San
    Diego, California (with him)

Pretty, and not so pretty
  • After getting her B.A. degree, she was shown
    photography
  • Louis best type of photography was children's
    photography which became a life passion and
    profession
  • She submitted to be freelance journalist
  • As time passed with her career she became a
    not-capable person to be with Donald Grey Lowry
  • Then in 1977 they divorced

Starting a new life after the Break-Up
  • As a freelance journalist she put in a story in
    the Redbook Magazine caught the attention of an
    editor, Houghton Mifflin
  • The story she wrote was meant foe grown ups but
    it was told through the eyes of a child
  • The editor suggested that she wrote a childrens
    book and she did. It was called A Summer to Die
  • Then she wrote a book that was her most
    autobiographical work

Fun and Humorous writing in her book series
called Anastasia
  • In 1979, she wrote a series books called
    Anastasia
  • The books starts by telling about a very unique
    girl that is very different in her own ways and
    wants to be a writer
  • The girl based on one of her daughters
  • In this series she is unhappy because she has a
    brother with the name of Sam, and she thinks that
    her name is too long to fit on a t-shirt
  • She says if they put my name on a t-shirt the
    letters would go into my armpits!!!"

Her book The Giver
  • This novel is about
  • Everything is OK and under control in his life
  • There is no violence or fear distracting him
  • Everyone has a job in his community
  • Then....
  • He turns 12 and he is singled out to have
    individual training lessons from The Giver
  • The Giver holds the grasp of memories such as,
    the true delectation and sting of life itself
  • Now is time for Jonas to understand the truth
  • No Turning Back

    go on a DANGEROUS mission.
  • She has to come up with braveness and strength to
    save her best friends life
  • No turning back now!

  • Strange changes are happening in the Village
  • Once a utopian community welcomed outsiders
    (strangers) into their community
  • Now, Village is close to outsiders
  • Out of the few people who travel to the Dark
    Forest, Matty must supply the message to Seers
    daughter and him, of the Village closing before
    it is to late
  • But, the forest become deathly to Matty
  • He must FIGHT to get the message to them before
    its to late

  • 1942 Loiss father goes of to war. Family moves
    to Pennsylvania

  • 1950 Loiss mom moves family back to PA. Father
    stays in Japan
  • 1951 Family moves to Governors Island in New
    York City
  • 1954-56 Lois goes to Brown University and drops
    out to marry Donald Grey Lowry
  • 1958 Loiss first child is born , Alix
  • 1959 Loiss second child is born, Grey
