What we did
  • We all live in Kapiti and go to The Barn, an IDEA
    vocational service for young people.
  • IDEA is a service division of IHC NZ Inc.
  • To do this presentation we met every Wednesday
    afternoon for 7 weeks

    disabilities should get but sometimes they dont.
  • Posters were made from what we said.
  • Here are our posters. We are now going to share
    some of the important messages from our posters.

  • Hello Mr Smith I want to ask you something. I
    have been doing work experience for 3 months. I
    would like a real job.

  • Sorry, we dont hire disabled people but you
    can stay doing your work experience. Now I have
    to go, I have a meeting.

  • Um, sorry we dont have disabled youth in our
    group.

  • Dad I want to go to the pub.
  • Dont know, dont think so.
  • But Dad all me friends go there.
  • I dont think you should be going.
  • But Dad I have my 18 card. You should treat me
    like an adult.

What we learnt
  • We need to speak up

    sure all young disabled people have the same
    rights as other young people in New Zealand
