TELEGOIÁS
TELEBRÁS
  • 1993 _ Initial deployment of DLCs
  • 1994 _The bidding process for HFC network
    construction was started
  • 1995 _ Regulatory changes in CATV market
  • 1996 _ The deal with the HFC supplier was
    made.
  • 1994/5_Technical Advisory for the first
generation FITL systems (point-to-point such as
    Digital Loop Carrier)
  • 1996/7_Technical Advisory for Hybrid Fibre/Coax
    networks.

5
HFC TELEBRÁS considerationsMain driving forces
  • Demand for CATV services
  • New revenue opportunities
  • Possibility to provide POTS
  • Becoming more competitive to face new players in
    the near future.

6
HFC TELEBRÁS considerationsMain characteristics
of the Network Planning
  • HFC and FITL transceptors integrated at the same
    Service Access Point
  • Whole number of earlier POTS serving areas
  • Fibre node not bigger than 1920 hp
  • Wavelength transmission requirements in 1.3?m and
    1.55?m.

7
HFC TELEGOIÁS case
  • The regulatory changes X CATV purpose
  • FITL/HFC integration in the same cabinet
  • Coverage of the coax distribution network
  • Cost effectiveness 440 hp X 1920 hp fibre nodes
  • 1.3 ?m as a solution for better flexibility.

Conclusions
  • The regulatory changes forced TELEGOIÁS to find
    other killer application
  • The final network was determinated by the
    Installed First Cost
  • Changes on the earlier project saved 25 on the
final network cost per home-passed, allowing the
growth of the plant from 108,407 hp to 211,084
    hp
  • Therefore, higher service penetration and
performance can be reached from now on.
