Physical Description

• Adult males weigh 385-420 pounds and a female
  can weigh 240 to 285 pounds.
• Lions have light brown fur, sharp teeth and claws
  and the males have big manes of hair.
• Lions belong to the cat family.

Habitat

• Lions live in grassy plains and open woodlands.
• African lions can be found in central and
  southern Africa.
• They need to live where there is a lot of prey
  for them to eat.

Food and Diet

• Lions eat zebras ,gazelles and warthogs.
• Lions eat meat and are carnivores.
• A lioness can eat 55 pounds of meat a day and a
  male can eat 95 pounds.

Predators

• Humans are a big threat to lion.
• Lions use their claws and teeth and speed to
  protect themselves.
• Their fur color helps them stay camouflaged.

Babies

• Babies drink their mothers milk for 8 months.
• A female can have 2 to 4 babies.
• A cub weighs 3 or 4 pounds when it is born.
