1
Of Mice and Men
  • Chapter One
  • George Milton and Lennie Small

A Presentation created by sherrel wait
2
George Milton
  • He is a small man.
  • I know this because we are told on page 4 that
the first man was small and quick. We are also
told that he has small, strong hands.

3
Lennie Small
  • He is a big man, in contrast to his name.
  • I know this because on page 4 he is described as
a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale
    eyes.

4
George Milton
  • He has been a good friend to Lennie. He looks
after all Lennie's affairs, such as carrying his
work card, and tries to steer him out of
    potential trouble.
  • I know this because when Lennie fort he had loss
his work card George said You never had none,
you crazy bastard. I got both of em here . Think
Id let you carry your own work card this shows
that George looks after Lennie and keeping him
    out of trouble.

5
Lennie Small
  • He has limited intelligence, so he relies on
George to look after him. He copies George in
everything George does and trusts George
    completely.
  • I know this because when George cupped his hands
and drank the water from the river Lennie copied
him. On page 5 we are told that Lennie who had
    been watching, imitated George exactly.

6
George Milton
  • He needs Lennie as a friend, not only because
Lennie's strength helps to get them both jobs,
but so as not to be lonely. His threats to leave
Lennie are not really serious. He is genuinely
    proud of Lennie.
  • I know this because when George had a go at
Lennie on page 14 Lennie said George, you want
I should go away and leave you alone then George
later on replied with No-look! i was just
foolin, Lennie cause I want you to stay with me.

7
Lennie Small
  • He likes to pet soft things, like puppies and
dead mice. This can get him into trouble though.
  • I know this because in weed Lennie saw a woman
wearing a nice red dress and decided to touch the
dress the woman pulled away but Lennies reaction
to this was to crab the woman so they ended up
    being ran out of town.

8
George Milton
  • He shares a dream with Lennie to own a piece of
land and is prepared to work hard to build up the
    money needed to buy it.
  • I know this because on pages 15 to18 Lennie is
trying to persuade George to tell him about there
dream tell me- like you done before.

9
Lennie Small
  • He is often described as being like a child or an
animal because this is the way he behaves.
  • I know this because on page 4 Lennie is described
as a bear and he walked heavily, dragging his
feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws.

10
George Milton
  • He would be very lonely if he didnt have Lennie
    as his friend.
  • I know this because on page 15 George tells use"
guys like us, that work on ranches, are the
loneliest guys in the world. They got no family.
this shows that if George didnt have Lennie he
    would be lonely.
