Who
  • On July 10 1999 in Lusaka, Zambia, the Democratic
    Republic of the Congo along with Angola, Namibia,
    Rwanda, Uganda and Zimbabwe signed the Ceasefire
    Agreement for a cessation of hostilities between
    all belligerent forces in DRC. The Movement for
    the Liberation of the Congo, one of two Congolese
    rebel, movements, signed the Agreement on 1
    August 1999.

  • The United Nations Deputy-Secretary General
    Asha-Rose Migiro had a visit to the Democratic
    Republic of the Congo, where she met with top
    leaders and conveyed a message about the world
    bodys support for the country as it moves to
    consolidate peace.
  • In July 2004 there were 10,531 UN soldiers under
    MONUC's (U.N. observer) command. On October 1,
    2004, the UN Security Council decided to deploy
    5,900 more soldiers to Congo, although UN
    Secretary-General Kofi Annan had asked for some
    12,000.
