• 19 breakdown of a relationship
• 14 ending of tenancy
• 2 mortgage arrears

Current situation

• There are now an estimated 459 rough sleepers
• There is also 100,970 people in temporary
  accommodation
• 72 have dependent children

Who are the homeless

• Half of homeless people have some form of
  qualification
• One in 10 has a degree
• A quarter have GCSEs
• 8 have A Levels

What problems do they face?

• Most have dependency issues, whether it be drink,
  drugs or mental health issues.
• But many are stereotyped
• "Prospective employers may like my CV but the
  minute they see I'm living in hostel, they lose
  interest.
• "It portrays a thief or a drug addict or
  something like that. It's a never-ending circle.
  I can't win."

What is the government doing?

• More than 200m has been invested to prevent and
  reduce homelessness and hostels are also being
  improved
• There are also plans to build an extra 10,000
  social homes a year by 2008
