Title: Theme: The faith needed in believing Jesus to be the Son of God' Acts 8:3539

1
Jesus Is The Son of God
  • Theme The faith needed in believing Jesus to be
the Son of God. Acts 835-39

2
Introduction
  • There are many in this world who have confessed
that Jesus is the Son of God.
  • Over the centuries many have gone to their death
    in defense of His name.
  • On the other hand many more question whether
Jesus, let alone the Bible is authentic and a
    reliable source for our salvation.

3
Introduction
  • We will focus on a number of lessons directed
toward this statement Jesus is the Son of God.
  • We will look at the type of faith the Christian
has (and needs) in Jesus as the Son of God.
  • Historical evidence that Jesus existed.
  • That the Bible is the Word of God.
  • That the New Testament is a reliable source by
    which our faith is derived.
  • Showing Jesus as the Son of God.
  • That Jesus brought forth a new covenant N.T.

4
Faith Needed
  • Faith is a belief in and a commitment to
something or someone (for the Christian God).
  • Without faith Heb. 116a
  • With faith Heb. 116b
  • We are able to understand that God spoke creation
    into existence. Heb. 113
  • We are able, like other people of faith, to hope
for a heavenly home. Hebrews. 1113-16

5
Faith Needed
  • This faith is necessary because
  • We have never seen the God we profess to believe
in and willing to die for.
  • We attribute words from men to be the words of
    salvation.
  • We have a hope for an eternal abode called
heaven, of which we have yet to experience.

6
Faith Needed
  • Faith is also necessary in believing Jesus as the
Son of God, risen from the dead. Rom. 13-4
  • Confessing with the mouth Lord Jesus is
    necessary. Rom. 109-10
  • Believing with the heart that God raised the
    Lord Jesus is necessary.
  • Faith is essential to Salvation!

7
A Faith that Uses Intelligence and Facts
  • God does not expect our belief in Him to be a
    leap of faith.
  • The phrase leap of faith connotes an
    unreasonable type of faith.
  • If this is the faith of Christianity, it is most
    saddening.

8
A Faith that Uses Intelligence and Facts
  • A Christians faith should be based upon the
    ability to reason.
  • This ability is a God-given gift. Ps. 516
  • Man is the only creation on earth with the gift
of intelligence and rational that is unmatched by
Gods other earthly creations. Gen. 126
  • With this gift one is able to love God with all
our heart, soul, and mind. Matt. 2236-38
  • With this ability, one is able to seek truth.
    Jn. 832

9
A Faith that Uses Intelligence and Facts
  • Faith based on facts.
  • Facts are evidence(s) that substantiates a
    specific claim.
  • They include recorded events and testimony based
on time, people, events, and places that actually
existed in history, example Lk. 21-5 31-2
  • This cannot be said of philosophies, legends or
    myths.
  • The claim Jesus is the Son of God
  • Showing evidence that Jesus actually existed.
  • Showing evidence that Jesus is the Son of God.

10
Conclusion
  • With God-given intelligence, man is able to
reason with his mind and heart, based upon
historical and factual events that Jesus Christ
    is the Son of God.
  • It is this kind of faith that believes in the
actual historical existence of Jesus, that the
New Testament is a reliable source that teaches
us about Jesus, that Jesus is the Son of God, and
that he established a new covenant by which our
    faith rests upon.
