CBA Article 14.3
  • The promotion of a tenured faculty unit employee
shall normally be effective the beginning of the
sixth (6th) year after appointment to his/her
    current academic rank/classification. In such
cases, the performance review for promotion shall
take place during the year preceding the
effective date of the promotion. This provision
shall not apply if the faculty unit employee
requests in writing that s/he not be considered.
  • Leaves of absence do not stop the normal
five-year clock for promotion of tenured faculty
    members.

Associate Professor PlutoSeeking Promotion to
Professor
  • 2004-05 Year 1 at Associate Professor rank
  • 2005-06 Year 2 in rank
  • 2006-07 Year 3 in rank
  • 2007-08 Year 4 in rank
  • 2008-09 Year 5 in rank
  • May submit WPAF for promotion to Professor
  • 2009-10 Promoted to Professor

31
Professor PlutoTenured Seeking Promotion
  • Tenured faculty have the option of not being
    considered for promotion
  • Leaves of absence do not stop the clock
  • Tenured faculty should only list
    activities/accomplishments completed since their
    last promotion.
  • Include materials after WPAF was closed during a
    previous review e.g., student evaluations
  • Tenured faculty need not develop a Professional
    Development Plan (PDP)

32
RTP Guidelines
  • Must submit WPAF when applying for tenure and/or
    promotion
  • 2-yr. reappointment may only result from full
WPAF review, not a modified performance review
    (i.e., new faculty review).
  • During first year of a 2-year reappointment,
probationary faculty must complete a short review
    (periodic evaluation).
  • PDPs are 2-year plans completed by probationary
faculty. They are not personnel actions so
timelines are developed at the College level.
They are to be completed every two years
regardless of whether a short or long review
    (WPAF) is being submitted.
  • Collegial Letters are important
