AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • February 2 African-American inventor Edmond
    Berger patented the spark plug in 1839.
  • February 4th Rosa Parks born on this date in
    1913 was a woman who believed in her own rights
    as a person. She was arrested on 12/1/55 for
    refusing to give her seat on the bus to a white
    man.

CHANCELLOR HIGHFIELD HOCKEY
  • The time has FINALLY arrived---the RINGS are in
    and we will be having our final get together for
    the year. The last Field Hockey banquet is open
    to all varsity and junior varsity players,
    parents and family members who wish to come and
    celebrate the 2006 State Championship Season.
  • We will be having a catered dinner and two guest
    speakers. The end of the year Charger Hockey
    Highlight DVD will also be unveiled!! There will
    also be presents for the varsity and junior
    varsity players given out at the banquet.
  • The banquet will be held on Tuesday, February
    13th in the Fellowship Hall at Fredericksburg
    Baptist Church 1019 Princess Anne Street in
    downtown Fredericksburg. The banquet will run
    from 530-900??? With the sitdown meal
    beginning at 600 sharp. Dinner will be Chicken
    with roasted potatoes, etc.
  • We are asking that you RSVP with the total
    number of people who will be attending from your
    family NO LATER THAN FRIDAY January 26. The
    players and staff will be free of charge but to
    help offset the cost of the meal we are asking
    that family and friends pay 6 for each persons
    meal.

PTO MEETING
  • The next PTO Meeting is scheduled for Thurs.
    Feb. 15 at 630 p.m. in the cafeteria.  All
    parents, faculty and students are welcome.

COMMONWEALTH GOVERNORS SCHOOL
  • Attention students in grades 9-11 All
    applications and teacher recommendations for the
    Commonwealth Governor's School are due to Mrs.
    Holmes by Feb. 12, 2007. Testing will take place
    on Saturday, March 3, 2007. Please mark your
    calendars.

VARIETY SHOW
  • The VARIETY SHOW tryout will be held on
  • Tuesday, February 27 from 3 pm until 6 pm.
  • Get your music and your acts ready now!!!!
  • See Mr. Lipscomb in the Band Room for additional
    information.
  • Tryout Information Forms will be ready to pick up
    on Wednesday, February 7 in the MAIN OFFICE

ADVANCED PLACEMENT NIGHT
  • On Wednesday February 7th Chancellor High School
    will host an AP Night for parents and students
    who would like information about the Advanced
    Placement program. We will meet in the
    Auditorium and begin promptly at 630 PM. There
    will be a short informational session to discuss
    course expectations and benefits of taking AP
    classes. Following this presentation, you will
    go to the Library where each Department will
    illustrate these classes.
  • Any student considering an Advanced Placement
    course for next year should attend.

SPRING FLING
  • Plan ahead. . .

  • Courthouse Road Elementary is having their
    Spring Fling, Saturday, April 28th from 4-7 PM. 
    High School Volunteers are needed to man the
    games. If youre interested see Glad Coordinator,
    Ms. Brown in Room B239.

CHEERLEADING
  • Attention all students interested in
    cheerleading next year. Tumbling and stunting
    clinics are being held every Wednesday from
    245-445. Come out and learn some new skills.
    Meet in the main lobby.

JUNIORS
  • You have less than two weeks to register for the
    March 10th SAT. This is a heavy test date so
    don't miss the February 2nd deadline. For
    interested students... Horizons Education SAT
    Improvement Course is being offered at James
    Monroe and Courtland High Schools. The cost is
    249.00 and students can register at
    www.horizonseducation.com.

ATHLETIC BOOSTERS
  • The Athletic Boosters will meet Monday, February
    5, at 630 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Mrs.
    Mary Ann Litton, school counselor, will present
    information on NCAA academic eligibility
    requirements. As we move into helping our
    children choose classes for next school year,
    find out what is required for participation in
    college sports.

ATHLETIC BOOSTERS
  • ATHLETIC BOOSTERS
  • If your son or daughter plays a sport at
    Chancellor High, please consider joining the
    Athletic Boosters! We support all the sports at
    Chancellor and we need your help to keep our
    program running. A family membership for the
    school year is 25.00.
  • We offer (1) male and (1) female scholarship in
    the spring to a graduating senior whose family is
    a member of the Athletic Boosters. We also run
    the Sports Awards banquets held in the Fall,
    Winter and Spring and fund the awards that are
    given to the athletes at these banquets.
  • If you would like an Athletic Boosters
    membership form emailed to you, please email
    manahan4_at_verizon.net or you can pick one up in
    the school office. For seniors to be eligible
    for the scholarship, membership forms must be
    returned by February 7, 2007. We know your
    schedule is busy, we ask that you join and help
    out when you can!

JUNIORS
  • The Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is
    sponsoring the National Rural Electric Washington
    Youth Tour. The REC will select 6 Juniors for
    the June 10-14, trip. In addition, REC will
    award a 500 scholarship to one student based
    upon their participation during Youth Tour.
    Selected students will receive an all expenses
    paid trip to Washington, DC to interact with
    their peers from around the country, learn about
    Cooperatives, and meet with their Congressmen and
    Senators. Interested students must see Mrs.
    Bennett in the Career Center for an application
    before March 2007.

CAREER CENTER
  • The Virginia State Parks Youth Conservation is
    accepting applications for the summer 2007
    program. Youth crews consist of about 10 young
    people, ages 14-17 and three college-age or older
    crew supervisors. Each team lives in the park in
    a structured program of work and learning closely
    supervised by professional park staff and
    committed adult volunteers. By day, the crew
    carry out priority park development and
    maintenance projects, and after hours they take
    part in planned environmental education,
    teambuilding, worklife or job readiness training,
    and recreational activities. All meals and
    housing are provided and each youth participant
    receives a 500, program completion stipend. See
    Mrs. Bennett in the Career Center for more
    information or an application. Applications must
    be received by noon, April 13, 2007.

CAREER CENTER
  • Any SENIOR who will be attending college in the
    Fall and plans to major in a field of study
    related to financial operations such as business
    administration, economics, public administration,
    operations research, accounting, finance,
    computer science, etc., should see Mrs. Bennett
    in the Career Center as soon as possible for two
    scholarship opportunities.

CAREER CENTER
  • The Dept of Defense is again offering a summer
    research experience to selected high school
    students. The George Washington Univ. Science
    and Engineering Apprentice Program (SEAP) offers
    apprenticeships for high school students
    interested in science and engineering. The
    students are assigned to a participating
    laboratory to pursue scientific experiences with
    a scientist or engineer who serves as mentor to
    the apprentice for eight continuous weeks,
    between June 18, and August 10, 2007. Students
    will be selected on the basis of grades, science
    and mathematics courses taken, scores on national
    standardized tests, hobbies, areas of interest,
    teacher recommendations and personal student
    statement. See Mrs. Bennett for an application.
    Deadline to apply February 28, 2007.

CAREER CENTER
  • The Washington Internship Experience is
    accepting applications for its unique and
    rewarding study seminars in Washington, DC for
    qualified and talented high school students from
    across the country. The program can be taken in 3
    wk or longer segments starting June 17 through
    July 28. While in Washington, participants
    experience college living and dining on the
    campus of Marymount Univ. The Washington
    Internship Experience cost 3,250 plus a 150
    application fee. For more information and an
    application, visit the website at
    www.workshops.org . Interested students should
    apply in a timely fashion.

CAREER CENTER
  • The KUMON Math and Reading Center of
    Fredericksburg is looking for responsible high
    school juniors and seniors, with an interest in
    teaching, for part-time employment or students
    looking for volunteer community service hours
    after school. Students interested in the
    part-time employment positions should have at
    least a B average and excellent Math and
    Reading skills. This is an excellent opportunity
    to get paid while getting experience in the field
    of Education. See Mrs. Bennett in the Career
    Center for contact information.
