  • 95 of the time offense is reposnable for scoring
( there are some exceptions defense and special
    teams)
  • Moving the ball
  • Also helps give defense rest

4
Scoring on Offense
  • Scoring on offense is when the football is placed
    over the goal line
  • For offense scoring is a touchdown worth 6 points
  • One can score by passing or running as long as
the ball crosses the goal line plane

Defense Overview
  • What are we going to talk about on Defense?
  • - What is it?
  • - What does Defense do

10
What is Defense
  • Defense is made up like offense of 11 players on
    any given play.
  • The purpose of defense is to stop the offense
    from scoring
  • On occasion the defense scores

11
Positions on Defense
  • There are 3 majors categories on defense
  • First is the defensive line which is the first
    level of defense
  • Second is the linebacker this is the second level
    of defense
  • Third is the secondary which includes cornerbacks
and safeties. This is the third level of defense.

12
Look at the different positions on defense
13
Different Plays on Defense (Zone)
  • Zone Defense is when a defender occupies a space
in which is responsible for stopping the player
    in his zone

.
14
Blitz Defense
  • Blitz Defense is meant to put pressure on the
quarterback and stop him from gaining any
    positive yardage

15
How does the defense stop the offense
  • The defense stops the offense when the offense
does not convert a 10 yard gain on 4 downs
  • Or the defense creates a turnover ( fumble or
    interception)

16
What is a turnover (fumble intercetpion)
  • Fumble is when the offense player gets the ball
hit out of his hands or just drops it down to the
    ground
  • With the ball on the ground it is a live ball and
    anyone can pick it up
  • Offense can recover or the defense can gain
control and bring the offense out on the feild

17
Turnover contd.
  • An interception is when the quarterback throws a
pass and someone from the defense catches it.
  • This can happens because of a poor mistake by the
quarterback a good play by the defender
  • Also the ball can be intercepted when the ball is
tipped in the air either by offensive or
defensive player and the defense catches it

18
Special teams
  • Special Teams is when neither the offense or
defense is on the field. Its a combination of
players from both sides of the ball
  • This is either on punt/ punt return kick/ kick
off return or point after attempts

19
How to play
  • The game starts with a coin flip to determine
    which team has possesion first
  • The teams then line up for the kickoff
  • After the return an offense and defense goes onto
    the field.

20
How to Play Contd.
  • After lining up on offense and defense the
offense is trying to get at least 10 yards
  • The offense has four downs to get the 10 yards.
  • The offense in the end is trying to score points

21
Play Contd. Part 3How does the defense stop
  • The defense can stop three ways
  • - either by tackling which is once player
forcing another player to the ground
  • - by forcing the other player out of bounds
  • - forcing and recovering a turnover
    (interception or fumble)

22
Scoring Points
  • After a possession where the points are scored
the team that scored kicks-off to the defensive
    team.
  • Each team alternates with possession of the ball
    trying to score points
