SAMARA REGION
  • The Samara Region is situated in the
    south-eastern part of the European Russia in the
    middle part of the Volga, Europe's biggest river.
  • It is known, that from the times of the Second
    World War Samara (Kyibyshev) became one of the
    most important centers in the former USSR and
    currently in Russia.
  • It is generally affected by geographical location
    of the city as the junction of North and South
    broadways, connecting South and North regions of
    Russia and western regions with Siberia and
    Middle Asia.

Scheme of SamaraNet
  • SamaraNet is based on a fiber optics backbone
    which is supported by a mixture of ATM, Fast
    Ethernet and Ethernet technologies.
  • The history of Samara Regional Network for
    Science and Education (SamaraNet) began from
    August of 1995 when the first on-line IP channel
    was installed to Moscow (RAS) in framework of
    INTAS project EmNet/NIS/PhaseII.
  • The network consist of central nodes in nine
    locations distributed across Samara.
  • The total number of Internet working places is of
    order one thousand points.
  • Our network is typical Russian Regional network
    for Science and Education

CACHE HIERARCHY
  • There are the three levels of hierarchy within a
    our cache mesh
  • Top level server (chache1.rbnet.ru) is placed in
    Moscow, Russian Institute for Public Networks
    (RIPN). The foreign traffic is put on this host,
    because outlet links arrive in Moscow, M-9.
    System configuration 45 GB, 512 MB of RAM.
  • Basic level of mesh unites the cache servers of
    Regional Internet Servers Providers (RISP)
    connected with Samara-IX.
  • Internal level includes the local servers inside
    our Regional Network for Science and Education.
  • This activity including a installation,
    negotiations, announcements begins from January
    2000 and do not end currently.
