  • Parent Council collaborations

Stromness Academy Parent Council
  • Was set up in 2007 and has 12 parents and other
    co-opted members.
  • It meets every six weeks or so. Sub-groups meet
    at other times, too.

In 2007-8,
  • We began the process of identifying important
    issues for parents
  • Some of these carried forward from School Board
    times
  • Lockers
  • Canteen queues
  • Buses

Parents also became involved in new
processes
  • Interviewing all new staff
  • Attending Parents Evenings
  • Electing new S1 parents
  • Contributing to School Newsletters

We established two sub-groups
  • which meet beyond the business meetings of Parent
    Council
  • STEM
  • Schools of Ambition

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)
  • This arose from two parents interest in using
    contacts in the local community to enhance
    opportunities for pupils

  • This arose from Hildas wish to broaden
    engagement and understanding of the Schools of
    Ambition Project to parents.
  • Parents identified certain issues from the wider
    approach taken by Schools of Ambition
