  • Management of Wastewater treatment is not
    efficient
  • Trouble shooting by the O and M of TP, high water
losses, lack of capacity building, lack of public
    awareness.

Capacity building programs (2003-2007)
  • Training needs assessment (2003)
  • Lack of practical training in WWT, Lack of
qualified trainers, lack of regional cooperation

Training Modules

of WWPT
5 WBT, 4-5 modules, 40 hour duration for each,
total of 250 participants

EMWater guide for wastewater treatment and reuse-
Why?
  • Problems
  • Decision makers in most DC are not technical
    person.
  • Hierarchy, Bureaucracy, Mentality.
  • Complexity of technical tender offers for WWTP
    construction.
  • Lack of appropriate and sustainable solutions.

26
EMWater guide objectives and tools
Objective To provide DM from ministries,
authorities, NGOs, and the private sector with
simplified and easy support tools
Tools
Review of regional and international experience,
case studies/ project examples.
Review of appropriate technologies
Review of regional and international experience,
case studies/ project examples.
Review of literature, references and links
Focus Wastewater collection and treatment- small
centralized/ decentralized systems
27
EMWater guide development and dissemination
(1) Literature review / internet search
(2) Questionnaire development and evaluation, 50
experts from MEDA countries
(3) Draft guide lines development
2 months
2 months
9 months, Guidelines for WWTR

(4) Feedback from stakeholders in the MEDA
countries
3 months
(5) Final development and dissemination
28
EMWater Trainers Tool kit
  • Development of trainings modules of all
trainings materials produced during the conducted
EMWater capacity building programs 2004 2007.
  • Topics wastewater management, conventional WWT,
alternative solution of WWT, Wastewater reuse,
    methodology.
  • Practical tool for trainers with trainer guide,
timetable, exercises, PPP, Case studies, Role
    plays and literature.
  • serve a sustainable use of produced trainings
materials for trainers and experts from the
    region.

29
Conclusions
  • Quite good number of professionals attended
    EMWater training programs.
  • Trainers tool kit is developed and disseminated.
  • Five pilot plants for WWTR are constructed in
Jordan, Palestine, Turkey and Lebanon and running
    well.
  • EMWater guides for decision makers are developed
    and disseminated.
  • Good networking and experience exchange between
stakeholders in the region is taking place more
    effectively.
