Title: Yachting Australia Team Racing Committee

1
Yachting Australia Team Racing Committee
  • Summary of meeting
  • June 2006

2
Event Manual for TR
  • This was drafted in SA by Ian Porteous.
  • Standardizes the procedures for running TR in
    Australia at National events.
  • Draft complete and being formatted by YA and due
to go to Committee members August 06

3
Interdominions - Schools TR
  • Top 3 teams each from Aust and NZ
  • Agreement reached on principles for running
    event.
  • Entry Fee (about 2k) covers all reasonable costs
for this years event in Auckland NZ
  • Does not cover airfares to Auckland.

4
Interdominions - Open TR
  • Invitation from NZ for 2 teams from Australia to
    attend the NZ Open Championships
  • Timing for this event is middle February
  • NZ had 2 teams at ATRC 06

5
ISAF 2007 WORLDS
  • 20th to 25th Aug 07 at West Kirby UK
  • Will be inaugural Youth and Open event
  • Youth is under 21 at 31st Dec 2007
  • Note Australian TRC 07 will have both a Youth
and Open component to provide selection for the
Worlds - we are looking at selection criteria (ie
one youth and one open, and the other 2
    combinations)

6
Esculating Entry Fees
  • The committee is very conscious of the cost of
    entry for National Regattas
  • Looked at capping - but venue and physical assets
(such as hiring Pacers at ATRC 06) make capping
    impracticable.
  • Have looked at event going to smaller off the
beach type clubs where there are a lot of
    volunteers.
  • No simple answer!

7
Event Schedule
  • ATRC 07 - May/June 07 most likely at RQYS in Qld.
We are aware of the short lead time to the Worlds
with this as a selection regatta - earlier the
    better
  • ASTRC 07 - 14th to 18th June 07 at Sandy Bay
    YC/RYCT - bring your thermals!!!

8
Naming of event
  • Submission from SA for the name Team Racing to
    be changed to Team Sailing.
  • Better definition of what we do and avoids
confusion with people outside of the sailing
    community (sponsors etc)

9
Swiss League system
  • To be the event scoring format for National
    events.
  • West Kirby (UK) version was trialed at ASTRC 06
  • YAI to hold the latest version of this system for
    MYAs

10
Weight limits discussed
  • A proposal for weights to go to 115 kgs due to
    the increasing weight of boys
  • Countered by some girl teams having difficulty in
making 100 kgs (allowing for 10 kg max to be
    carried as extra ballast)
  • To remain at 110 kgs and be monitored.
  • Total support that weight limits should be part
of Team Racing when using Pacers

11
Age Eligibility for ASTRC
  • Different states have different criteria for
    secondary schools.
  • Current system provides a definition, but there
    could be a better definition.
  • Looking at simple system ie just using ages to
set the limits. But,what about the schools! Its
    more complex than it looks!

12
Australian Youth Olympic Festival
  • Held at Farm Cove in Sydney by RSYS in mid
    January
  • Sailing discipline will be TR - 1st time for
sailing to be incorporated into this festival!
  • Nominations have closed at MYAs
  • Selection of 6 person (3 boy, 3 girl, 2
coaches/managers) to be completed by MYAs by 14
July 06 - to YAI by 21st July
  • International representation confirmed

13
Schools Interdominions
  • 3 schools to be advised for travel to NZ this
    year
  • Current system of hosting in Aust not practicable
    or suitable.
  • When in Aust. looking at
  • Top 2 teams and a team from MYA hosting the event
to be invited (if not already there)
  • If no expression of interest from MYA on roster,
    then offered to next MYA

14
Officiating
  • Suggestion that event competitors could benefit
from being involved with umpiring on the water
(and RO). It would be expected that a small
number would go on to become umpires/ROs.
  • There is a major review on officiating in
    progress at YAI

15
Notes
  • When scheduling, please check the YAI website.
Doesnt have all the information you may require
at times, but is a good start.
  • Next YAI TRC meeting is a teleconference in
August 06. Items to me (ronjensen_at_westnet.com.au)
    by mid July please.
