Accreditation Process Program Unit Relationship
  • There are 2 elements of the Accreditation

  • 1. The Unit Review of the School, College, or
    Department of Education
  • - reviewed on-site by NCATE Board of Examiners
    and/or State
  • 2. The Program Review of the specific discipline
area, such as the early childhood program
  • - reviewed on-line by SPA (Specialized
    Professional Association) reviewers

21
The Program Review Informs NCATE Unit Standard 1
  • Candidates preparing to work in schools as
teachers or other school personnel know the
content of their fields, demonstrate professional
    and pedagogical knowledge, skills, and
dispositions and apply them so that students
learn. Assessments indicate that candidates meet
    professional, state, and institutional standards.

22
A note on terminology
  • Accreditation a decision made by NCATE about the
    UNIT
  • National Recognition a decision made by NAEYC
    reviewers about the PROGRAM

23
  • How does my NAEYC program recognition decision
    fit into the accreditation process?

24
The BOE (Board of Examiners)
  • ....will use the SPA report findings (across
programs) at an institution to evaluate whether
NCATE Standards 1 and 2 have been met

25
Notification of Appointment to Team
  • NCATE sends all NAEYC Reviewers an Availability
and Conflict of Interest Form via email
