2- With Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) coming,
some HSC families decided to take some orphans
home with them for the holidays. John,Pippa,
and Nancy from Hephzibah enjoyed sharing family
time in their homes.
3We request upward thoughts for Baby Susan, a
cute 7 month old girl who has a very serious
heart disease.
- After being checked by Dr. Farhan, she was sent
to Shanghai - for life-saving surgery.
4Meet our new Chinese doctor at HSC, Dr. Xu
(pronounced shoe) shown with an adorable
patient.
5On February 14, orphans of three different ages
were brought from Hope Haven to see Health
Services Centre (HSC) doctors.
6This mother brought her precious child to HSC
because he has a brain disease.
7Mr. Laurie Sanders , our International
Communications Officer, provided a great help to
the Healthcare Team. Laurie left Xian to
return to New Zealand on February 16, 2006.We
all miss him and look forward to his eventual
return.

8The ELA dental health services began on February
7, 2006.

9The ELA dental health project provided services
at Hephzibah on February 22, 2006.
10- Alice, a little over a year old, had an earache.
The HSC doctor checked her ears and decided what
to do about her problem. Now shes feeling fine!
11Warmest Welcome
- Dr. Chris Sansom (middle) arrived in Xian on
February 23,2006.She will spend her 3 precious
months working with the HSC team. - Thanks!!!
12- Wang Si Yuan is a 16 month old girl who came to
HSC with multiple minor problems which can be
remedied by surgery - (watch for March update).
13- The ELA Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held
on February 25, 2006 at Xian ChangNing Palace
Villa.

Dr. May, the first Chinese member Of ELA, was
recently appointed Senior Executive Officer (SEO)
of ELA Healthcare.

- Current needs are
- There is a great need amongst the staff and
children for basic dental hygiene training in
addition to treatment. Necessary equipment,
space, time and opportunity all need to come
together for this very valuable health care to be
provided.
- We need a permanent International Communications
Officer to liaison with overseas teams, visitors,
and others - doing healthcare work.
- HSC needs a full-time (or part-time) foreign
doctor (family practice physician).

- Current needs are
- Funding has been arranged for purchase of
laboratory equipment. We have a local source
for a clinical chemistry instrument, but still
need a local source for a hematology instrument.
- Health Information Services seeks avenues for
dissemination of health education (including
culturally-sensitive health promotion
literature).
