  • Measuring Tips
  • Have the Cheerleader wear a bodysuit or
one-piece swimsuit and cheer shorts for accurate
measuring. Do not measure over street clothes.
  • Measure to the nearest 1/2 (no ¼ or ¾).
  • Chest Be sure the tape is straight across the
back. Arms are to be down beside the body.
  • Waist Measure the narrowest portion of the
NATURAL waist. Remember (or mark) this location
for the Back-Waist Length (BWL) and the
    Waist-to-Knee Length (WKL).
  • Hips Measure the fullest part of the hips
(approx. 8 below the NATURAL waist / navel).
  • BWL (Back-Waist Length)
  • Measure from the tip of the most prominent bone
at the base of the neck to the NATURAL waistline.
The cut of the shell top will have the
    overlapping material automatically added. Just
provide the exact measurement no additions.
  • WKL (Waist-to-Knee Length)
  • Measure from the NATURAL waistline down and over
the buttocks to the crease on the back of the
knee (the natural fold or crease where the knee
    bends).
  • NATURAL WAIST
  • This one issue must be treated properly and
planned for in advance. The NATURAL waistline is
across the navel. We do not want our Muth Youth
Cheerleaders to have an open midriff or belly
    show uniform.
  • If a girl wants (needs) to wear her skirt below
the NATURAL waist this causes three measurement
changes. The easiest, most reliable fit is to
remind the girls that TRADITIONAL cheerleading
waistbands are at the NATURAL waist and the shell
overlaps the waist band. Deviations from this
TRADITION may become a trial-and-error process
during your fitting appointment. Answer the
following question on page one. Will your
cheerleader wear her skirt at the NATURAL
    waistline?
  • Inseam Be sure to do this with a pair of
cheerleading type shoes on. The very best way to
measure this is to measure the inseam on an
existing pair of pants (not stretch pants) that
    fit the person best.
  • Arm Span Simply stand with both arms fully
extended sideways at shoulder height (a spread
eagle look). A second person needs to measure
from one wrist across the back to the other
wrist. This will give the most reliable
measurement for the WARM UP JACKET.
