Abstract Crenshaw County has an area of 1,582
square km and lies in central south Alabama
approximately 160 km north of the Gulf of Mexico.
The vascular flora of the county was surveyed
from 1987 to 2006. A total of 1192 species and
two named hybrids in 589 genera from 160 families
were documented. Twenty-four species (2 of the
flora) documented during the study appear on the
2006 Inventory List of Rare, Threatened and
Endangered Plants, Animals and Natural
Communities of Alabama as compiled by the Alabama
Natural Heritage Program. The names of the rare
taxa are followed by designations of their
status. Each species has a global rank (G)
representing its status range-wide, and a state
rank (S) representing its status within Alabama.
A rank of 1 indicates those species that are
considered critically imperiled those with a
rank of 5 are considered secure.
Results Species documented from Crenshaw County
that appear on the 2006 Inventory List of Rare,
Threatened and Endangered Plants, Animals and
Natural Communities of Alabama. Scientific names
for the taxa are followed by the common name,
global rank, and state rank. Gentiana catesbaei
