A Little Bit About the Cause

• The terrible situation of orphans and disabled
  children in neighbouring Romania was highlighted
  worldwide by campaigns in the early 1990s to
  publicise the dreadful conditions these children
  lived in, often treated as if they could do
  nothing better than vegetate, even if their
  disability were minor or treatable.
• Sadly, the reality is that the problem has not
  been confined to Romania, but extends over many
  post-communist countries, including Bulgaria -
  where the problem has not yet received the same
  level of attention. To date one in fifty children
  in Bulgaria are in institutions like these.
• To get a better idea of these problems the BBC
  recently made a documentary entitled Bulgarias
  Abandoned Children.

About the Trip

• 2 weeks in the summer holiday spent in either
• An orphanage,
• A centre for disabled children and/or adults, or
• A centre for street children.
• Whilst there you will help arrange activities,
  games and days out for the children/adults.
• Spend the money raised during the year to fund
  the activities and buy presents/ equipment.

Commitments

• Attending regular meetings to discuss fundraising
  and travel plans.
• Arranging travel plans, flights etc.
• Keeping in regular contact with the N.G.O. in
  Bulgaria.
• Fundraising events to meet the group target of
  1000.

Costs

• Although you fund your own expenses the trip does
  not cost too much
• Flights approx. 150-200 return
• Accommodation
• Staying in a centre free
• Apartment arranged by N.G.O approx. 75
• Spending Money approx. 200
• Its really cheap, an evening meal costs no more
  than 3 with alcohol!

• The group target is 1000, which is easily
  reachable with 12 people.
• We raised money through

• Bake Sales around Halls
• Writing letters
• Stall at Vale Festival
