The Speaking Gifts Their Purpose and Use1
Corinthians 141-12

17 - you do not lack any spiritual gift1231
141 - as a church, eagerly desire the greater
gifts1412 - gifts that build up the church

1 Peter 48-10Above all, love each other deeply,
because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Offer hospitality to one another without
grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he
has received to serve others, faithfully
administering Gods grace in its various forms.
4
1 Peter 411-12If anyone speaks, he should do it
as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone
serves, he should do it with the strength God
provides, so that in all things God may be
praised through Jesus Christ.
5
This is how God ministers to His bodyTongues
validates the messenger of the gospel or enables
him to share. Prophecy proclaims the truth.
Knowledge clarifies the truth. Wisdom applies
the truth. Teaching imparts the truth to someone
else. Encouragement demands that it be obeyed.
All of them come together so that
the body might be built up

In Corinth1. the speakers were not
delirious but were able to control how and
when they spoke2. the speakers and hearers
were unable to understand what was said
without an interpreter 3. the Holy Spirit
enabled someone to interpret or translate if
it was for public edification4. Paul preferred
that people in the church prophecy
(proclaim/preach) so that everyone could
understand

Bayside Expressive but Non-Charismatic-
all Christians do not speak in tongues or should
seek this gift- it is not the primary sign of
salvation- it is not intended for public
meetings and worship services but is a private
prayer language or a miraculous means of sharing
the gospel- is not a sign of spiritual
maturity- it does not give a person revelatory
authority or supersede the word of God
20
Psalm 1914May the words of my mouth and the
meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight,
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
