Genetic Predisposition

• 10 have affected parent or sibling

• Increasing at an alarming rate.
• Death rate second only to lung cancer.
• 1 in 90 will have melanoma by year 2000.

• Light skinned.
• Previous melanoma.
• Burn easily.
• Red or blonde hair.
• Multiple nevi.

• Superficial spreading type.
• Nodular.

• Based on tumor size.
• Affected lymph nodes.
• Metastasis.

• Multicolored
• Irregular borders and surfaces
• Erythema
• Bleeding

Squamous Cell Carcinoma

• Arises from Actinic Keratosis of Leukoplakia
• Indurated on erythemetous base
• May metastasize

• Sun biggest culprit.

Basal Cell Carcinoma

• Most common
• Affects light skinned persons
• Translucent in appearance
• Telangiectatic vessels
• Rarely metastatic
