Offset printing is a commonly used printing
technique in which the ink film is transferred
from a plate to a rubber blanket (or "offset")
and then to the printing surface. When used in
conjunction with a lithographic process based on
oil and water repellency, the offset technique
uses a flat (schematic) image carrier. Ink
rollers transfer the ink to the image areas of
the image carrier, while the water roller applies
the water-based film to the non-image areas. The
modern "web" process feeds a large reel of paper
into several pieces through a large press
