Only use commas when they apply to these NINE
rules
  • to set off peoples names or nouns of direct
    address
  • to set off an appositive
  • to separate two independent thoughts (compound
    sentences)
  • after introductory elements (phrases, clauses,
    transitions)
  • in dates and addresses (letter headings)
  • around interrupters
  • between consecutive adjectives
  • to separate items in a series/lists
  • with dialogue tags
