GUIDE BY A.BALAJI M.E., Assistant Professor (Sr.
Grade), Department of Mechanical Eng.,

Objective
  • The main aim of the project is a try to generate
a cooling effect by using solar energy.
  • To design and construct a compressor free cooling
    system.
  • To use environmental friendly refrigerant for
    reduce the pollution (R134a).
  • To reduce the usage of electricity for cooling
    purpose.

Introduction
  • REFRIGERATION

Refrigeration is a process by which the
temperature of a given space or substance is
lowered below than the atmosphere.

  • AIR CONDITION

Air condition is a process Of controlling the
temperature, quantity, humidity quality of a air
for the required space.
4
Conventional cooling system
  • 1)Vapour Compression cooling System
  • 2)Vapour Absorption cooling System

5
Comfort cooling condition
  1. Climate and seasonal differences
  2. Clothing
  3. Age and sex
  4. Duration of stay

6
Solar collector
  • It can increases the pressure and temperature of
    the vapour refrigerant.
  • It can acts generator cum absorber.

Condenser
TYPE Air cooled condenser A Condenser is a
equipment built for efficient heat transfer from
one medium to another
9
Evaporator
  • Any of many devices in which liquid is changed to
the vapor state by the addition of heat
  • In refrigeration system element where evaporation
proceeds at low pressure and consequent low
    temperature.

10
Non Return Valve
  • Function of Check Valve is to prevent the reverse
flow of fluid in case of failure or sudden
    shut-down of Piping System.

11
Refrigerant
  • R134a Tetrafluoroethane
  • Refrigerant is a heat carrying medium which
absorb the heat from low temperature space and
reject the heat to high temperature space.

Advantages
  • Environmental based
  • Pollution free eco friendly
  • Reduce the usage of conventional energy and
    as good alternatives.
  • CFC emission is reduced.

22
Contd..
  • Technical based
  • Refrigeration with no compressor.
  • R-134a is used as refrigerant which has low
    emission of CFC.
  • It does not depend upon the electrical energy.

23
Future Scopes
  • The electric energy to the condenser fan and
blower to be supplied by solar photovoltaic cell.
  • During night time the heat can be supplied by
    using the heating coil.
  • By increasing the area of the solar collector
    performance can be improved.

24
(Contd.)
  • By changing the refrigerant human comfort can be
    increased.
  • By replacing the normal valve to solenoid valve,
    the system can be automated.

25
Conclusion
  • The system works satisfactorily and reduces the
ambient temperature considerably by 6 to 8oc. The
results obtained from the system are tabulated.
  • In future we hope that our whole world is purely
depend on renewable energy so our project is very
much useful for pollution free environment.
  • By taking the further developments it may
possible to produce cost free cooling.
