What do MECHATRONICS customers want?
VALUE EQUATION PERFORMANCE (HARM INTERFACE
COST)
26
Angles of value
PERFORMANCE What the product or process has to
do, what it is made for, the main function, make
that better or more. You can also introduce a new
performance. Ideal performance is PERFECT.
LESS HARM What are the harmful elements in
your system, harmful to the environment? Sound?
Heat? Time? Pollution? Ideally here you want a
HARMLESS, SAFE or BIO system.
INTERFACE What is the user interface like? Can
you make it easier, nicer, design? What can be a
better experience to the user? Ideally the
interface goes to zero and the system goes to
SELF.
COST What about the efficiency of the system?
What are the cost components? How can you reduce
the cost of the user? Ideally the cost goes
towards FREE product or process.

Energy generating revolving door
architecture energy
The Boon Edam revolving door plays a very
important part in achieving and maintaining the
sustainability of the building. The Tourniket
revolving door will help primarily to save the
carefully generated and conserved energy. A
calculation was made for this particular
situation that indicated an energy saving of
around 4600 kWh per year, a considerable saving
compared to a conventional sliding entrance.

SANYO has now succeeded in implementing its
Electrolyzed Water technology cultivated in
SANYO's Water purifying bacteria-removing device
into the Fully-Automatic "Wash with Ultrasonic
Waves and Electrolysis" washing machine. By
combining Electrolyzed Water's dirt dissolving
and bacteria-removing properties with the
cleansing power of Ultrasonic Wave technology
SANYO has brought to realization the World's
first "Zero-Detergent course" washing machine.
SANYO Introduces the Worlds First Zero-Detergent
Electrolyzed Water Cleaning Powered Washing
MachineAllows the option of "Detergent Course"
or "Non-Detergent Course" according to the
extent and type of dirt

Mosquito beater. Battery-operated necklace
transmits a sonic repelling frequency.
Liquid snow chain It hardens upon contact with
water, and provides additional traction in icy
and snowy conditions. Upon hitting dry asphalt
again, it will simply erode away. Its allegedly
completely biodegradable, so it wont harm the
environment.
No ink pen The solid metal 'nib' consists of a
metal alloy, that leaves a mark on most types of
paper.
Inhaled insulin contains a blister pack of
insulin in the form of dry powder. To release the
powder, the user presses a button and inhales the

FLEXIBILITY
This trend describes an evolution from fixed to a
system with one or more hinges to completely
flexible. Similar to the carpaint, the battery
has evolved from a immobile object to a flexible
one. Advantages making products flexible are
more compact folding, ltltltltltltltltpositional
flexibility, multi-way switching and compound
properties.

INFORMATION
Saw stop
machines engines safety tools
SawStop Saws are the most advanced saws in the
world. Each saw is equipped with a safety system
that detects when someone accidentally contacts
the spinning saw blade, and then stops the blade
in milliseconds. In most cases, such an accident
would result in just a nick on a SawStop saw,
instead of the devastating injury which would
likely occur on an ordinary saw. The SawStop
safety system includes an electronic detection
system that detects when a person contacts the
blade. The system induces an electrical signal
onto the blade and then monitors that signal for
changes. The human body has a relatively large
inherent electrical capacitance and conductivity
which cause the signal to drop when a person
contacts the blade. Wood has a relatively small
inherent capacitance and conductivity and does
not cause the signal to drop.

If your product is controlled directly, you could
make it controlled through an intermediary or
have it return intelligent feedback. For example
have an adaptive system, increasing use of
self-functions and reducing likelihood of failure.

INTEGRATION
This tree terminator does it all in
one Felling, strippin and cutting to length
If your product or packaging is now a single
system, you should consider making it consisting
of multiple similar systems. This has some
advantages, e.g. improving amount of useful
function deliverable, improving function
distribution (e.g. load spreading), improving
user convenience, synergy effects, reduced cost
per system component.
