Clauses
  • Clause - a group of words with its own subject

    clause?
  • A clause has a subject and verb, but a phrase
    does not have a subject and a verb.

  • Sometimes clauses can stand on their own and are
    independent
  • An independent clause is a simple sentence.
  • Ex I walk to school.
  • Sometimes clauses have a subject and verb but do
    not make a complete thought and are dependent
    (subordinate)
  • Dependent clauses can only be a part of a
    sentence
  • Ex I walk to school if I am allowed.
