Drawing Set Coordination
Problem
  • Locate drawings in a project directory
  • Identify drawings as part of the set
  • Determine number of the next sheet
  • Send all drawings to a client
  • Apply project standards

9
Sheet Set Manager (DST)
Solution
  • Simplified
  • drawing organization
  • plotting publishing
  • transmittal sets
  • archiving
  • Standards compliance
  • Multi-user access to sheet set information

The use of SSM, fields tables will improve
consistency accuracy of drawing info
Darren Myles, LHT
10
Drawing Annotation
Problem
  • Title blocks contain
  • project and client information
  • sheet numbers and dates
  • Info updated manually per sheet
  • error prone
  • takes hours of project time

11
Go Further with Fields
Solution
  • Automatically fill in
  • sheet numbers
  • project names
  • client information
  • drawing dates
  • any other custom data
  • Create tables or text labels using object data
  • Automated plot stamping

Fieldscould be a huge time saver for us.
Joel Roderick, Water Technology, Inc.

Drawing Annotation
Problem
  • Manually create
  • details
  • labels
  • callouts
  • Manual update required as drawings change
  • This is error proneand time consuming

Go Further with Details and Callouts
Solution
  • Drag and Drop detail creation
  • automated labels
  • automated callouts
  • Synchronized updates of callout and detail labels
  • Find details by selecting callouts

14
Drawing Annotation
Problem
  • Manually draw tables from lines and text
  • Hard to position text
  • Difficult to modify or add rows or columns
  • Manually create sheet indexes, sheet-by-sheet
  • Update each time sheet information changes

15
Go Further with Tables
Solution
  • Simple
  • table creation
  • text editing
  • adding rows and columns
  • data import/export
  • Table styles
  • Insert symbols in tables

Tables make me look REAL good! So nice to be
able to easily produce what was otherwise a
chore. Robert Grandmaison, MKM
Associates

Sheet Set Tips
  • Each sheet points to a layout in a DWG file
  • Sheets contain additional information (name,
    number, properties, etc)
  • Importing a sheet from an existing drawing
  • Only imports layouts
  • Uses the layout as the sheet name
  • Enables you to prefix the sheet name with the DWG
    file name
  • Adding a new sheet
  • Creates a new DWG file
  • Sheet number and name are used to create the file
    name and layout name.
  • Removing a sheet does NOT delete the DWG file

17
Field Tips
  • What are fields?
  • A field is updatable text that is set up to
display data that may change during the life
cycle of the drawing (date, sheet numbers,
    titles).
  • When the field is updated, the latest value of
the field is displayed Text, Mtext, attributes
  • Shortcut menus, ControlF, or FIELD command
  • FIELDDISPLAY variable (controls gray background)
  • FIELDEVAL (controls when/if evaluated)

18
Table Tips
  • Table Styles
  • Apply different properties for data, column head,
    and title cells
  • Tables
  • Click table border/grid to select table
  • Click inside cell to select cell
  • Double-click cell to add Mtext or fields
  • Select cell and right-click to insert a block (or
    TINSERT)
  • Navigate between cells with Tab, Enter, and Arrow
    keys
  • Import from Excel using Paste Special
  • MATCHCELL command
  • TABLEEXPORT command (csv file)

19
Go Further with OLE
  • With OLE enhancements, you can
  • Specify an insertion point for OLE objects
  • Insert OLE objects on current UCS with
    predictable scaling (MSOLESCALE)
  • Select and edit OLE objects with standard AutoCAD
    commands including grips
  • Preassign plot quality based on type of OLE
    object (Options command)

20
Go Further with Tool Palettes
  • Create command tools
  • Apply tool properties from existing geometry
    (dimensions, text, gradient fills)
  • Drag and drop content from Windows Explorer
    (raster images, DWGs)
  • Include macros, LiSP and ARX
  • Apply common properties without scripting or
    programming
  • Organize tool palettes into palette groups
  • New Auxiliary scale factor for Hatch patterns and
Blocks use the Dimscale or Plot Scale
  • TBCUSTOMIZE (disables Customization dialog)

21
Go Further with Step Savers
  • With Views and Viewports, you can
  • Assign view categories to named views
  • Store layer visibility with named views
  • Edit view boundaries
  • Associate named layout views with a particular
    layout
  • Maximize a layout viewport (without changing the
    scale factor)

22
Go Further with Step Savers
  • With DrawOrder and Bhatch, you can
  • Assign draworder to hatch objects
  • Hatch an area with a boundary gap
  • Trim a hatch to a new boundary
  • OSNAPHATCH sysvar determines whether object
snap modes snap to hatch patterns
  • Edit objects without regenerating to see display
    order
  • Create new objects that inherit original
    draworder

23
Go Further with MTEXT
  • Apply background mask to Mtext objects (also
    dimension text)
  • Insert symbols as part of Mtext objects

24
Granted Text Wishes
  • Draw Order settings for all text and/or dimension
    text (TEXTTOFRONT)
  • DDEDIT for text, mtext or attributes
  • MTEXT editor drastically improved now permits
    tabs and in-place editing
  • Word Documents now maintain proper formatting

25
Go Further with Time Savers
  • With the Layer Properties Manager, you can
  • Provide a description for each layer
  • Apply changes to layer properties (without
    exiting)
  • Filter layers based on external references
    (automatically)
  • Filter layers based on layer properties
  • Filter layers based on layer groups

26
Go further with Timesavers
  • Multiple Copy now the default
  • Match Properties now matches Polylines, Viewports
    and Tables
  • New OSNAP (keyboard modifier) Midpoint between
    two points (M2P/MTP)
  • Zoom to Object(s)
  • Pan and Zoom in 3DClip
  • Calligraphy option for REVCLOUD
  • DIMTMOVE sysvar position text of new dimensions
  • XREFTYPE sysvar set attachment or overlay as
    default
  • Open drawings displayed on the windows taskbar
    (TASKBAR to 1)

27
In-place editing
  • New fast direct object editing!

28
Final Output PlottingGo Further with the New
Standard in CAD Productivity
Problem
  • Find and plot the individual files that comprise
    a set of drawing
  • Wait for AutoCAD to come back from a lengthy
    plot job
  • Help colleagues debug failed plot jobs
  • Track what drawings have been plotted for a
    project

29
Final Output Plotting / PublishingGo Further
with the New Standard in CAD Productivity
Solution
  • Sheet Set Manager provides
  • One-click plotting
  • Standardized plot settings
  • Keep working while job plots in background
  • Reports of plotted sheets

When publishing a 200 sheet job to a plotter,
being able to sort sheets into the correct order
is a huge need. Thanks for including this
improvement in 2005! Dave
