1
Hadith Session 7A
  • Ramzan Shahid

2
Hadith
  • For every Ummah there is a temptation, and the
temptation of my Ummah is wealth.

3
Surah Al-Taghabun, Ayat 15
  • "Your wealth and your children are only a trial
(fitnah). And Allah - With Him is a great reward
    (Paradise).
  • "And know that your possessions and your children
are but a trial (fitnah) and that surely with
Allah is a mighty reward." Surah al-Anfal, 28

4
Hadith
  • A son of Adam becomes old but two things in him
become young greed for wealth and greed for more
    life.

5
Hadith
  • "If a son of Adam were to own a valley full of
gold, he would desire to have two. Nothing can
fill his mouth except the earth (of the grave).
Allah turns with mercy to him who turns to Him in
    repentance".

6
Hadith
  • Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth
but looks at your heart and actions.

7
Hadith
  • What is little but sufficient is better than
that which is abundant but causes heedlessness.

8
Hadith
  • Look to those lower than you, and do not look to
those above you, lest you view the favors of
    Allah (upon you) as trivial.

9
Hadith
  • "I don't fear poverty for you, but rather I fear
that you will compete with one another (to see
    who has more possessions).

10
What are things we compete for?
  • Bigger house/mansions
  • More prestigious suburb
  • More expensive car
  • Nice clothes/shoes/purse
  • More pay/salary
  • Higher position/status
  • Advanced degrees
  • Islamic knowledge
  • Better Masjid

11
Hadith
  • "Two hungry wolves, if let loose amongst a flock
of sheep, cause less harm than a man's eagerness
to increase his money and his prestige."

12
Surah Taubah, Ayat 35
  • On the Day when the money, gold and silver which
you hoarded will be heated in the Fire of Hell
and with it will be branded their foreheads,
their flanks, and their backs, (and it will be
said unto them) "This is the treasure which you
hoarded for yourselves. Now taste of what you
    used to hoard."

13
Hadith
  • "Three things destroy, and three things save. As
for the three things that destroy, they are
greediness that is obeyed, and desires that are
followed, and a person becoming self-conceited
(and proud) with himself. As for the three things
that save, they are the fear of Allah in secret
and public, and moderation in poverty and
richness, and fairness in anger and pleasure."

14
Needs vs. Wants
  • Need shelter
  • Need car
  • Need clothes
  • Need food
  • You must decide what is your need for each one
    of these things
  • Is a fancy, luxury car you need or your desire?

15
Surah Baqarah, Ayat 219
  • The companions asked the Prophet (S) how much
    they should give in charity
  • They ask you (O Muhammad)what they ought to
spend. Say "That which is beyond your needs."

16
Needs vs. Wants
  • Allah (SWT) doesnt give a number or an amount.
  • He simply says give away that which is beyond
    your needs.
  • He does not define what is you need
  • That is up to you to decide
  • Each individual person must decide what is their
need and what is beyond their need.

17
Needs vs. Wants
  • On the Day of Judgment Allah (SWT) will let us
know if we made the right choice and considered
something a need or a desire.

(Nafs) who is content and in satisfaction! Come
back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and
well-pleasing unto Him! Enter you, then, among My
honored slaves, and enter you into My Paradise!"

27
Hadith
  • "The two feet of the son of Adam will not move on
the Day of Judgement in front of his Lord until
he is asked about five things about his life,
and how he spent it? And about his youth, what
did he consume it in? And about his money, how
did he earn it? And what did he spend it on? And
how much did he act upon what he knew?"

28
Hadith
  • "The plentiful (i.e., the rich) will be the
lowest on the Day of Judgement, except he who
distributed his money left and right (i.e., at
all times), while he earned from pure (means)."

29
Hadith
  • A servant says My wealth, my wealth. But out of
his wealth three things are only his (1)
Whatever he eats and makes use of or (2) By means
of which he dresses himself and it wears out or
    (3) He gives as charity, and this is what he

32
Hadith
  • "O son of Adam! It is better for you to spend
what is in excess of your needs and worse for you
to keep it. You will not be blamed for (keeping)
enough to cover your needs. Begin with your
immediate dependents. The upper hand is better
    than the lower hand."

33
Hadith
  • 'A'isha reported that they sacrificed a sheep and
the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him
peace, said, "How much of it is left?" She said,

    its shoulder."
