Title: Conducting a Seeker Bible Study

1
Conducting a Seeker Bible Study
  • The Three Ps of Church Planting
  • Prayer
  • select a period (best time of the day, length of
    time, over how many days)
  • select a place (classroom, campus chapel,
    library study room, dormitory, etc.)
  • select another person ( find another apostolic
believer two praying is more powerful than one)
  • identify a purpose for prayer (start with Luke
102, pray for labourers, pray for a burden for
    souls, pray for direction)

2
The Three Ps of Church Planting
  • People
  • identify a pocket of people (target a group of
people e.g. engineers, law students, Asians,
Blacks, males, females, Muslims, Hindus, foreign,
    etc.)
  • identify a person of peace who is open to the
gospel (find one that is hungry for God, one that
is broke, one that has a need)
  • select a time and place for meeting (e.g.
Thursdays at 330 p.m. at the Student Centre.
Also specify the length of time the study will be
    45 minutes for 3 weeks)

3
The Three Ps of Church Planting
  • Purpose
  • purpose to proclaim the gospel (identify a
lesson. Make it systematic e.g. the 7 signs of
Jesus from the gospel of John, Or Rightly
    Dividing the Word)
  • purpose to stay (continue meeting with person
even after the series of lessons are finished
even if the person has not yet repented. Be a
friend before you can lead someone to Christ)
  • purpose to support (minister to that person, meet
their needs spiritually and encourage them)
  • purpose to disciple (after they have made a
decision to serve Christ, get them in a formal
bible study from your church. Invite them to your
    assembly)

4
Five things to consider DPALS
  • When discipling a person of peace, consider these
    five things
  • Demonstrate what it means to be Christian (in
daily prayer and bible reading). Also take that
person to bible studies that you are conducting.
  • Participate allow that person to participate in
    the bible study with you.
  • Allow that person to teach a bible study in your
presence while you watch them. Do not correct
them in the study when they make mistakes.
    Encourage them and support them.

5
Five things to consider DPALS
  • Link the person to your assembly and youth
    leader, activities, and discipleship class.
  • Send them off to conduct bible studies on their
own however, meet with them for training and
follow-up. Meet regularly with your disciple for
    time of share and care.

6
Three things to do when you gather to worship at
a campus church
  • Welcome everyone with a smile, handshake, and a
blessing from the Lord. Hospitality (people love
  • to gather around food give thanks), hand out
    and eat.
  • Worship - saturate the place with singing,
praise, dancing, lifting hands, and prayer. Be
creative in worship. Make it fresh and new.
  • 3. Word someone should lead in sharing a word
of exhortation, testimony, or a revelation.

7
Bible Study Suggestions
  • The Seven Signs of Jesus (Book of John)
  • Turned water into wine (John 2 1-11)
  • The Noblemans son healed (John 4 46-54)
  • Healing the Paralytic man at the Pool of Bethesda
    (John 51-16)
  • Feeding of the Five Thousand ( John 6 6-14)
  • Jesus walks on water (John 615-21)
  • Man born blind (John 91-41)
  • Raising Lazarus from the dead (John 111-46)

8
Questions to ask
  • What does it show you how people are?
  • What does the story tell us about what people
    need?
  • What does the story tells us about Jesus?
  • What do you think that Jesus would like to do in
    your life?

9
Six Questions to ask regarding any passage
  • What did you like best?
  • What did you like least?
  • What did you not understand? (You could ask
someone else what it means). It is important for
them to discover truth for themselves.

10
Bible Study Suggestions
  • What do you personally need to do about it?
    (Practical application of the scripture)
  • What verse or phrase could you think about during
    the week?
  • Pick a verse or phrase to thing about during this
week and when we come back well talk about it.

11
Icebreaker
  • What went well this week? What did not go well?
  • Expect the unexpected in the bible study.
  • What to do in a church campus?
  • Acts 242 daily teach, fellowship, worship,
    prayer.
  • Hebrews 10 23-25 encourage one another to good
    works.
  • I Corinthians 14 25 manifest the spiritual
    gifts.
  • Fear looks, Faith jumps

12
A Ten Minute Bible Study
  • Ask these 5 questions
  • - Have you ever lied? (then wait for the
    answer)
  • - What does that make you? (he/she should say
    a liar)
  • - Have you ever stolen something before? (wait
    for the answer)
  • - What does that make you? (he/she should say
    a thief)
  • - Have you every looked at someone in lust?
    (wait for the answer)
  • - Matthew 528 says that you have committed
adultery in your heart if you look on a woman and
lust in your heart after her.

13
A Ten Minute Bible Study
  • By your own admission you a lying, thief, and
    adulterer in your heart.
  • If you were to die today where would you go, hell
    or heaven?
  • If you were guilty of a crime and stand before a
judge, would he let you go?
  • If he is a good judge, he would not.
  • If you say to God let me go, would He let you go?
    No, because He is just.

14
A Ten Minute Bible Study
  • Now if you are in court and you are fined and
cant pay it and someone came and paid the fine
for you, how would you feel?
  • God did that through Jesus when He came and died
on the cross. He took your place on the cross.
Jesus paid for your sins and mine. If you confess
your sins and believe in your heart that Jesus
died for you and was resurrected for your
    justification you will be saved.
  • Repent now and ask Jesus into your heart. Ask God
to forgive you in Jesus sake and He will. As a
way of demonstrating your willingness to follow
the Lord, you should now be baptized in water, by
immersion as the scripture teaches and in the
name of the Lord Jesus. When you have done this
then the Lord will fill you with His Spirit, as
    he has promised (Acts 238)
