High Prevalence of CHBV in Asian American
Communities
  • Prevalence for Chronic HBV in US is lt 2
  • The prevalence of HBV is very high among API
    (5-15)
  • The incidence of liver cancer due to HBV is 7-13
    times higher in API Americans than in white
    Americans
  • 50 of children born to HBV mothers in the US
    are Asian American.

Objectives
  • Increase community awareness of Chronic Hepatitis
    B
  • Improve the knowledge of Physicians and other
    Health Professionals about Hep B
  • Test young adolescents high risk adults AA,
    immunize those who are susceptible and refer for
    treatment for infected persons

Goals of the project
  • 1. Fewer hepatitis B infections among Asian
    Americans (AA)
  • 2. Increased access to treatment for AA with
    hepatitis B.
  • 3. Decreased health disparity for liver cancer
    and cirrhosis among the AA population
