  • Chewing Tobacco- Also known as dip or chew.
    Consists of poor-quality, ground tobacco leaves
    mixed with flavoring.
  • Snuff- Finely ground, powdered tobacco.

  • Mainstream Smoke- The smoke that comes off the
    end of the cigarette.
  • Sidestream Smoke- Smoke that is exhaled from the
    lungs.

Long-Term Effects
  • Chronic Bronchitis- The airways are constantly
    inflamed. The overproduction of mucus make
    breathing difficult.
  • Emphysema- When the alveoli in the lungs can no
    longer function properly.
  • Lung Cancer/Oral Cancer- Tumor or growth that
    develops caused by carcinogens.
  • Leukoplakia- White patches on their tongues or
    the lining of their mouths.

Changes in a Smokers Body after Quiting
  • After 3 months Circulation improves, lung
    function improves
  • After 9 months Coughing and nasal congestion
    diminish. Energy level increases
  • After 1 year Excess risk of heart disease is
    half that of a current smoker

    nonsmoker. Risk of mouth and throat cancer is
    half that of a current smoker
  • After 10 years. Lung cancer death rate is about
