  • L2 Learners
  • Can be of any age (3 to 103),
  • May have variable motivation and access to L2
    speakers,
  • May have very different learning environments,
    and
  • Can draw upon previous linguistic knowledge.
  • L1 Learners
  • Are almost always infants,
  • Are highly motivated to learn the language that
    is around them,
  • Usually have similar learning contexts, and
  • Have never learned a language before.
