Where are we located?

Where are we?
Michigan is surrounded by five Great Lakes that
contain the largest amount of fresh water any
where in the world! We told you it was the best!
Michigan has two peninsulas. An upper and lower
peninsula. We live in the lower peninsula. We
call it the mitten.
We live here, in Novi, Michigan--ten miles
north-west of Detroit, Michigans largest city.

Novi is believed to have been first settled in
1825, 12 years before Michigan became a state.

• Novi is relatively flat, with low, rolling hills
  along the blue line.

• Thats because the glaciers stopped at that line
  during the last ice age.

• Heres our school.

• The City of Novi is 31.6 square miles.
• Getting around Novi is fairly easy, as all major
  east west roads are numbered and exactly one
  mile apart. 
• 8 Mile Road is the southern border of the city. 
  14 Mile Road is the northern border. 
• Major north-south routes are also one mile apart.

Shopping Heaven!

• The largest building project in the Citys
  history was completed in 1977 with the opening of
  the Twelve Oaks Mall. It is the largest mall in
  Michigan. There are several other shopping plazas
  in the city, as well as three large outdoor malls
  near Twelve Oaks.

Our Neighborhood

• Students at our school live in various kinds of
  single family homes, town houses and apartments.

• Parkview is a large red building. Students come
  to school and go home by yellow school bus,
  walking or parent drop off/pick up.

At Parkview, we have three play structures. We
also have a soccer field with nets. We have a
blacktop that has 2 basketball hoops.

• 905 a.m. school starts and take attendance
• 910 a.m. say the pledge of allegiance
• 930-1020 a.m. math lesson
• 1020-1115 a.m. specials (gym, library, art,
  music)
• 1115-1200 a.m. science/social studies
• 1200-1215 p.m. teacher read aloud
• 1215-1235 p.m. word study/spelling and grammar
  skills
• 1240-120 p.m. lunch recess
• 120-255 p.m. English language arts (reading
  writing)
• 255-315 p.m. recess
• 315-340 p.m. English language arts continued
• 340-345 p.m. planner
• 345-355 p.m. get ready to leave
• 355p.m. we leave for home

• Friday We rotate specials every nine weeks so
  that we go twice a week to one of our specials!

Cafeteria

• Our cafeteria is part of the gym. There is a
  wall that closes to divide the gym in half so
  that we can have lunch in half of it. We get our
  milk, main meal, juice, side dishes, snacks, and
  then we sit down and eat. After eating, we go to
  recess to play.

• Mrs. Michos is our principal. She is really nice.

Mrs. Fallone and Mrs. Wernette are our
secretaries in our office. They help us if we
need anything or get hurt.
